I also clean the glass when I've closed the damper down and blackened it.....
And some times i throw it in the chicken coop , they like to dust bathe in it
I leavethe big red coals in the wood stove, ash in a steel pail on concrete till the next time i need to clean out. Then i go spread that cold but horrible toxic waste on mossy parts of my lawn and under my spring flowering trees and shrubs.
I finally warmed a piece of wood and split it. My tester said 20% right before i broke it :dur: I only got to test a soft wood, have to get another and check hardwood.
My mantle is rocking 117 degrees at the hottest point.
71 degrees on the chimney where it comes into the shed
Great explanation, thanks.
If we do the remodel the chimney would go. First floor would get pushed out several feet.
I'd bet he's right at 5 feet up there. As to the combustibles.... I'll let you tell him :D though the wood storage under the firebox is factory...
Bump.
Clean look to that insert.
We're talking about a remodel to that end of the house. Knocking that wall and chimney out. What would an ideal install look like?
I'm patient, I'll watch Craigslist till i find enough pipe....
Thanks for the input.
I haven't done a thing to this chimney, wife's thinking about a remodel... and had been awhile.... the old man used to do it himself.
