Sorry to hear the news Butch. Lost for words really. I have heard rumours of people taking a fungal growth from Birch trees. They grind it up and make a form of tea out of it. Supposedly helps. Mainly people in Eastern Euroland and Russia try it. Maybe with a look over the pond for Chaga Mushrooms? https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/chaga-mushroom

Nice Stig, I love working beech trees. Whether climbing or on the ground. Strangely they are, both my favourite tree to look at and to work on.

I would have thought, given your countries very liberal laws on drugs that vapes would be easy to get hold off. Where exactly are you in Portugal? I used to go there a bit BC (Before Children). Stayed in Sagres and a couple of other smaller villages out that way.

I think that is key. Know who your working for and what their capabilities are. I have been contract climbing for about 15 years. Some I feed piece meal, others crash it out. There is another side to the coin though. I worked for one firm who had on the books groundstaff and used contract climbers. Some days I couldn’t win, 4 guys on the ground. Cut it small and they say it was taking too long... Cut thefuckaoffin one and they would moan they had to pick a saw up and so some work. Turns out they were a load of bitches, who would do anything to try and discredit the climbers.

Sorry to hear that Carl. So great she got to spend that short amount of time with each other. My mother passed in 2002. One of the saddest things to me is the fact the kids will never see their grandma. It is quite saddening when my kids ask who the lady in the pictures is? I try not to make eye contact with my dad as I know he will be close to tears.

Stig, you have a tree to fell in a woodland that isn’t marked. GPS co-ordinates are hard to remember. Each 3 metre by 3 metre block has a unique name consisting of three words. Words are easier to remember than co-ordinates. You remember the words, follow the map on your smart device and you will get to the exact location... I.e. a 3 m square block in it with the tree you wish to work on.

Here in Norway it isn’t uncommon for roads to be Named after the destination. The destination may be miles and miles away. So putting in Hellvikveien 123 might be obviously enough but 125 might be 2 km up the road. Or you may drive 5 miles and then come to 137. Some people have built house a 100m away from the road on a patch of land but not put any signage on the road side. So much time wasted looking for a property. I can see the benefits of the 3 word system.

What about a large plot with multiple trees and woodland? Also address in Norway are often impossible to find even with the numbers and street name. You would be able to see the correct tree at location: poortree.soon.dead I am presently in my iPhone at - trim.cheater.beast

Butch, I hope you find something to replace it. 8 hours of social interaction is a big chunk to fill. Is there any way you could do part time or are the energy levels not up to it?

Wow, yeah I can see that now. Sometimes I wonder about the amount we end up walking if you’re on the ground. There isn’t the tendency to get Iron in for that many companies in the UK. Possibly due to access issues etc. I have done full days before now with almost constant dragging down long straight 100foot gardens to the single gate at the bottom. Wonder how many miles that would clock up.

I witnessed similar last winter. I had dismantled a very large silver birch bordering a railway line. The guy I was working for decided to tell the stem. I said shall I move the tracked chipper? First tr6. It was about 3 metres away. He said it will be fine, just fold up the hopper. The hinge broke as the tree was guided over, his the solid ice on the ground, bounced and lurched about 3.5 metres forward. Smash clean into the hopper right where the electrics are for the feed control and stop bar. The chipper still worked but didn’t look too smart.
