I had an ad on craigslist, this isn't tree work, but hell 450.00 sounds decent heh?

Hello,

I am David and I'm responding to your advert on craigslist, I will be
needing your handyman service to help me with setting up my
apartments, I am buying new furniture such as a set of couch, dinning
set, center Table, entertainment center(wooden shelf), beds e.t.c from
a furniture company and they said i would need to provide someone to
help them with arranging the new furniture in my house on the delivery
day, although two guys will be coming from the company and they will
be coming with all tools needed besides all the major work will be
done by them.
The old furniture are already out of the house so all you will be
doing is just to help them set up the new ones, my house is just a
three bedroom apartment (no stair case or elevator) and you would be
working within the area so i don't think it will be a difficult job.
The job will take you between 5-6 hours according to the furniture
guys and i am willing to pay you $450 for the job considering the fact
that you might be coming from a far location.

I am out of town now because of my pregnant wife who is on business
trip and she is about to deliver a baby so i have to go and stay with
her, which means you will not be able to have a look at the apartment
until the delivery day, I need you to give me a firm commitment for
this job because i want the furniture arranged in my home before me
and my wife get back to the state, so i want a solid arrangement so
that things would go smooth and perfect before my return because I'm
making this a surprise for her.

I will instruct my secretary to make out payment to you immediately as
a deposit once you confirm to me that you can have the job done
perfectly and any additional charges can be paid after you finish the
job if need be.
I will be in need of the following information to enable my secretary
make payment to you.
full name........home and mobile phone.......home address........city
and state........zip code........

The job will take place in a week's time or there about but i will
forward your phone number to the furniture company so that they can
call you and you can both schedule a date for the job. The key to my
apartment is with my neighbor, i will call her and let her know when
you guys will be coming for the job

I would have loved to talk this over the phone but as i have said
earlier i am out of the state and my phone does not work here but you
can always get a hold of me through the email, Please get back to me
as soon as you can so that i won't have to look for someone else to do
the Job for me,
Hope to read from you soon.

David.

Sounds wild. And even if it ends up being a bum deal, you won't be out anything but a few hours of time. I wish I could make that kind of money for standing around. ;)

The whole thing sounds fishy but especially this part.

I will instruct my secretary to make out payment to you immediately as
a deposit once you confirm to me that you can have the job done
perfectly and any additional charges can be paid after you finish the
job if need be.
I will be in need of the following information to enable my secretary
make payment to you.

Why does he need all of that information from you? I'd be very cautious if I were you. I can go online here to the tax collector's website to verify homeowner information. You might want to do that before proceeding, just to make sure this guy is legit.

I'd never knew someone thought moving furniture was cool.

You should give him your social too, just for good measure.

I'm guessing your joking anyhow. ;)

One of my part time gigs about 10 years ago was working part time for a moving company for a year. Physically demanding but not difficult. I was thinking the cool part would be getting $450 for standing around for a day.

But it doesn't make sense now that I think about it. Why doesn't he just have his neighbor with the key handle it?

I find moving furniture very demanding for my body. The fact that I have slipped vertebra in my back probably doesn't help. The thing with furniture is that it's very awkward to handle. Moving furniture is almost as bad as putting together Ikea furniture. :X

Yeah, there are some major scams on that thing. Mandi was trying to sell a crock pot on there, and someone asked her about it, etc... Then all of a sudden she got a check in the mail for 1000 bucks, and the guy asked her if she'd cash it and give the change to him in the box she was supposed to mail the crock pot in. :?

The audacity of some people...

Yeah, I'm leery. For one thing I was not even close to offering service for moving. 450.00 sounds good, but really, who in the hell gets a complete stranger to go their house, where supposedly the wife and new baby are coming? I am of the opinion its a total scam. Been getting lots of emails about crap like this, I thought this one was very creative.

I love reading the wierdos on Craig's list though. It's sort of fun wading through all the scammers and hustlers, like being a tourist on Bourbon St in New Orleans.
