Lyme disease

I have a friend who has been dealing with it for years... he's been to see multiple lyme specialists and done countless hours of home study on Lyme and co-infections. He's a good dude and will be happy to talk to you. Look me up and call or PM me.

Good luck with it.

I know the Bulls-eye rash. Like a target growing ever larger across my thigh. I couldn't help but notice it, back in the later 1980s. and less than a year later I was in ER with acute Arrhythmia, which marked the start of a chain of unfortunate events that put me in the ER 3 times over the next 30 years.

In 2019 ablation surgery and meds gave me a new lease of life. Lymes, I know from other accounts as well, is bad ju ju.

A buddy of mine got it 20 years ago when the docs had no idea about it. He had no health ins. so just toughed it out till 2 of his customers asked hi m if he was drunk as he was slurring so bad. It was in his spinal column and brain. Year later he was dead.
Ive had it numerous times and treated with Doxy. Still have a hunch Im still dealing with it.

I have two friends that have had long-term Lyme. One was put in hospice but made it. Both had multiple rounds of IV antibiotics. And both said that Ivermectin (the anti-parasitic med that is being used effectively to treat covid) did them better than anything else they tried over the years. More than 15 years each.

This was posted in the “How’d it go today” thread but I figured I’d add it to this thread.

I just started Lymes disease treatment

It’s a shame that the medical professionals didn’t diagnose this and I had to tell them what I had. When I mentioned Lymes the doctor said “it’s not like you’ve been in the woods, right?” I told him that I’m always in the woods. All of the symptoms fit: headache, stiff neck, muscle pain (hurt to move, felt like soreness from heavy workout multiplied by 3), rash (non bullseye type- all over body) , temperature, and fatigue. 2 trips to the ER, one trip to family doctor and a trip to a prompt care clinic and now we’re getting better. It looks like it didn’t spread to my heart but that will get checked in a couple months. The blood test didn’t come back yet to officially confirm Lymes but I have all the symptoms and the typical antibiotic for Lymes is proving effective so………

Not like you have to be in the woods to pick up a tick. I have had at least 10 on me this year and haven't been in the woods at all.

My cousin had it 30 plus years ago in Florida. Took him forever to get it diagnosed. He is still suffering from symptoms.

IME ticks seem to be very seasonal as well as heavier some years than others. They can be a bit heavy in spring and fall and seem to be rare in the summer and winter.

One thing we all agree on is you don't want to get lyme but if you check regularly for ticks I think that helps alot.

I walk my dog in the woods off trail barefoot in shorts and no shirt multiple times/week and I haven't had a tick this year. And I do treework 5 days/week in often jungly conditions.

I think it's a bunch of crap Mike's Dr didn't assume he'd been in contact with ticks. This is MD. If you leave the house, and do anything in "unimproved" conditions, there's a good chance of picking up ticks. I've had numerous this year. One job in particular had me covered in them. The back of my neck was raw from little(~1mm) ticks boring into it, with some being engorged.

Well, hospital called and “confirmed” that it is indeed Lymes disease since the blood work came back. My big reason for distain of medicine in all this is that they couldn’t diagnose it. They had to be told. What if I hadn’t requested the Lymes test and insisted that’s what it was to get the proper antibiotic.

Agreed.

I think somewhere above I mentioned that when I went to the walk in and basically said I feel wrecked, they said do you work outside? I said yes and basically without further adieu they gave me the Docycline perscription. No testing etc, worked out fine

Go vegetarian, guys!

In the 45 years I have been working in the woods, I have had less than 10 ticks.

I figure they simply won't bother with my thin veggie like blood.

A much more likely rerason is, they are triggered by smell.
I probably don't smell right.

Location might have something to do with it, there are more than 2 different types of ticks.

We have Rocky mountain spotted fever(dog tick?), meat allergy(lone star), and Lyme disease(deer) ticks :^D Interestingly, when I was growing up, it was pretty much only spotted fever ticks. I can't remember the last time I saw one. Now, it's mostly Lyme ticks, with meat allergy ticks making a strong showing.

Nope.
The apprentice I fired picked 50 off himself while I was completely free.
We'd been working side by side.

not referring to you and the apprentice, was commenting on different locations/ countries
