Yes, NE legislators are pushing a bill re "Ability to Repair" which would make software available. John Deere et al resisting.
 
I think perhaps John Deere for example is attempting to claim intellectual property rights .Which is just withholding knowledge when you cut to the chase .J-D isn't the first and likely won't be the last .
That little move might stiffle 98 percent of DIY types .I'm among the other 2 percent .All that does is piss me off and I'll get it done with or without their help .
 
That's what I was thinking. Just makes my old tractor worth more. It'll run without a key if you bump the starter with a screwdriver. Lol. No software updating required.
 
I run several old lamborgini tracted tractors. Cannot imagine dealing with what the hay and large combine guys deal with. Reminds me of the GMO seed stock problems
