Boat / deck cleat for splicing...
Stainless and smooth or Galvanized and rough?
What's a good length?

You forgot to add a polished brass cleat. Now that's classy!
IMO it really doesn't matter as long as it's solidly mounted to an immovable object, but then again I use a biner bolted to the floor of the shop.
Length: bigger would be better so you are knot limited down the road.

Brass LOL.
I was thinking the shiny looks nice but maybe the rough would help grip a not.
8" big enough? :big-wink: I mean for a cleat length.

I believe mine is 9",works a charm. I got the smooth one cause that's what they had. I couldn't imagine needing grip on it really.

Thanks guys.
I saw a splicing video where the guy did a few wraps around the cleat.
When he gave it a good tug the rope started slipping on the cleat.

Wish I would find time to learn splicing. Take a couple wraps on the cleat and lock it off like you would on a port-a-wrap. It won't slip that way.

Perfect Sgriff! I bookmarked that channel.
Getting me a big shiny cleat.
Rich, in that video I was the guy used a bunch of half hitches without a cleat hitch.
I love this forum, you guys are great.

@dsptech, where in upstate are you from? I'm in Delanson. Right next to Duanseburg and Esperance.

The dickings you say!

Crazy names...

Crazy names indeed.
Delanson. Right next to Duanseburg and Esperance right around the corner of Hogwarts and Diagon Alley.
I had to google map it to see if you were in the same country. :?

Welcome to the Treehuse 96coal449.
Can't believe I never heard of those towns before. :/:
Spent a ridiculously fun (totally unproductive) semester up at Herkimer CC which apparently is not that far from you.
I'm over in Syracuse, ever hear of it?
