Nice, Jim, you play with a band from the rez? It's nice have immunity;)

New Mexico was one of my most odd (and a bit scary) racist experiences, a lot of pissed off natives and mexicans down there. If you want to bring a pretty lady, better bring a gun too, was the way I was left feeling after my last visit.

I've skimmed the last bit.

OBVIOUSLY slavery has frigged up Africa, The US, lots of places. Still happening. OBVIOUSLY poverty fucks things up. OBVIOUSLY police corruption and killing of people has frigged SHIT UP. OBVIOUSLY its not from the melanin in their skin. Poverty, helplessness, hopelessness, victimization...

I've been jumped by Latin Kings 20 years ago, had some mixed 'race' guy and his two shitty white friends try to start something with me the other day. Had a white guy try to steal my bike as kid. I had to tell a black guy in the ghetto that the reason my (black) social services client was in the back seat was as a result of him previously being shot in the kidney or something, and the seat was front wet from an 'accident'. Felt good to talk my way out of that situation with the two guys drinking 40's from paper bags thinking I was making him sit in the 'back of the bus'. You all remember that paid-fare blacks got bumped from the buses on their way to work, shopping, etc.

I had no idea that I grew up in a very liberal, diverse place until I went to college. My first college girlfriend had 2 'black' kids in her school of 4000. I had lots. I went to a birthday party as a kid and realized I was having trouble understanding people, because they all spoke Spanish (Andre Rodriguez's birthday party). I had (east) Indian neighbors (stereotypical curry smelling, 3 generations in the household, daughter named Vimela who let me play with their dog, dad was Dr. Shishadri). Good, family-minded, elder respecting, people.
I have no experience with shitty Indians. Rajan can speak to that, I think, Muslims in India, at least.

There are shitty people out there.


LOTS OF SHITTY WHITE PEOPLE, BROWN, BLACK, YELLOW, RED, ETC.

LOTS OF GREAT white, black, brown, ...


Culture, poverty, history, inequity, etc, all go into it.


Some people have much closer ties to the bad parts of all cultures in our society, living amonst them, being victimized by them, etc.


Rico, are your friends good people that have a lot of melanin, or ghetto "thug for life" pieces of shit that have a lot of melanin? Are you friends with them because of the color of their skin or their character? Shitty people and good people of all stripes.
 
Haha, was certain that you had me on ignore, Skwerl2! So what is it? No one has put forth any proof that there is any inherent difference in race, beyond skin tone, probably because there is none.... But if there is, where is the proof?
 
Yes Levi. I used to play bass with a band from the Rez near Glacier Park. Flathead Indian Reservation. They were called the Renegades.

I was not full time. Only when they were up here on the sparsely populated Hi-Line. Although I did fill in on some gigs in more populated areas. Usually when another bass player had fallen off the wagon or was in jail.

We called them "rez" tours. We would hit all the Indian bars.

Always a good time. Kind of uncomfortable to think about now, but the indian fellow running the band would always schedule gigs around the time the rez checks would be coming out.

Those guys would be broke by Monday, but they sure as hell had fun that weekend.
 
Probably A LOT nicer with a pocket full of cash too, anyone is. :D Good story.

Well, was the destruction of the black family just an unhappy consequence of an expanded welfare state? If it was, they have had 50 years to fix the problem............Maybe poverty and crime is just too big to fail now.


When we go on the rez at night in our ambulance you usually have an escort. Its for our protection.

Aside from that, you dont loiter on the rez after dark.

When you play music on the rez you have to be part of an Indian band. They figure if the Indians in the band like this white guy, he must be okay.

Depends on the rez and where it is. I live between two of them and the one to the west seems a bit more together. The one to the east of me is a mess.

Most plains indian reservations fight the same problems as we all do. The problems are just more intimate, or less far removed on the rez.

But yes, they usually deal with a much higher percentage of corruption, crime, poverty, drugs and disease.

I do value this forum, and I will continue to post work pics and vids here from time to time. I just can't ignore what I find to be racist comments, so mixing it up with folks who seem to be racist, but don't have to balls to own it is kinda pointless.
Sean I'm not really sure what you're asking, but I do try and judge everyone, including my friends on their character.

Was met with some serious animosity after leaving my boulder bubble and driving down south with my fair lady (who sometimes likes to dress in a provocative manner). I was a bit surprised, but still had a great trip. Even in Taos, which I fancied to be some type of liberal haven, the tension was evident. Further south we had a policeman tell us it was not a safe town for tourists, we had a rental car with NY plates. Rural NM is very poor and down trodden, this seems to be the root of the tension. Like I said though, it was a great trip and I'd gladly go back anytime, without a gun (that part was a joke) So many incredible places and people down there like this spot, highly recommend a visit to anyone.

Cory, was the decision to corral the Indians on reservations a good one?

If it was I would love to hear the reasons why. If not.....why are they still corraled on the reservation? Could it be that there is a deep sense of hopelessness and dependence now?

So I guess if the huge expansion of the welfare state was bad for the black family, why have we not made changes to make it better for them?



Did these things happen too long ago that we just accept the consequences? Keep throwing money at the problem because its would be racist not to?
 
Erik, it takes a while to get used to our inHouse troll, "Bob".
But after a while you'll see that he is not really a racist, he simply hates everybody.
People of colour, feminists, liberals, those with education and those without, and of course, most of all, those Euro pinkos.:D

I think he might actually have liked Ghengis Khan, if he was still alive.
