August Hunicke Videos

Tonight I got to unload a trailer of wood into my backyard for future fires with the fam. One of my twins was super excited to help drive the power wagon and help dump it. I'm pretty sure it made his year since he's only 3. Just him and dad working..... It was a fun night for me too. Definitely hard to balance work and family. I kept the twins up 2 hours late just so I could spend a little time with them.

Something tells me I'm going to regret these years when I get older.

Really nice video but it was kind of depressing to me because it really made me think about what I'm missing. But I bet that's the point of the video.

August... I always love your video. Keep them coming :-)

Great job August. I agree with Paul, you and Brian have added a whole new dimension to tree videos

I know what you mean Eric. It has to be done though, the balance of work and family. Dad told me once of a whole month that he did not see me or my sister, up at dark, back home at dark. We bought a used boat and camper two years ago to try and break the cycle of all work and no play in the summer, never used it at all last year. About fifteen years ago I sorta forgave my father for being gone all the time, all the while knowing I would spend more time with my kids than he did. Hasn't turned out that way. I hope my kids will forgive me.

Blame is probably not a good word, but it does seem to often be a factor in the later relationship, how much time was spent together when young.

Yeah, was not so much blame. I realized that it was selfish of me at the time to want to spend more time with my father when I was growing up, he had to support the family. On the flip side, unless I am acting like a colossal anus, my kids really like spending time with me. Has to be a balance for sure.

August, you pushed some good buttons there. I enjoyed seeing how your boy emulated your work, enjoyed seeing your work shots, too. The last scene of your son running to greet Daddy was very good. Thanks for your efforts and sharing.

August,
Well done with the video, very personal in more ways the one.
Hope all is well with you and your family.....

1:54 great shot

August, at 3:20, you attached the camera to the rope?

Awesome vid man!

August, your leading the way in Arbor t.v, the angles, go pro positions and placement is incredible. You are WAY ahead of the game bud. Please keep it up.
Good work too!

I agree, Gary! Thanks for the great video, August!

Good video. Didn't watch with the effect of sound, Dahlia is 3' from the subwoofer, in the next room, through the wall.

How about how bad those chaps are? Be safe.

Erik, have you thought about mobile Skype to see the kids through the day, or at the end of a long day before getting home. Quick 5 minutes. I'm about to get a front facing camera phone, and plan to use it for Skype.

Does your business partner have a wife/ serious relationship and/ or kids? That powerbarrow has got to be a game changer. A stepping stone, I hope for you.

My hand truck and Arbor Trolley will still get used, but planning soon that they will be back-burnered largely. One thing at a time, I know. Brendon encouraged me to go with a mini a long while back, but ST Parks prevented the investment, as I was only going part-time residentially.

I know how being beat from work takes a toll on the family, and that I would rather have more time and energy at the end of the day, especially now that D is so much more interactive, and wants papa's attention so much. Looking forward to a my own powered forwarder, and chipper feeder.

Edit: I say this with a sore back. It is not in as good of shape as it was 3 years ago. I look forward to a lot of hard play with D, and am tired of saying I don't want to carry her right then because my back is sore (from doing very low tech work).

Cat Steven's

My child arrived just the other day,
He came to the world in the usual way,
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay,
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talking 'fore I knew it and as he grew
He'd say I'm gonna be like you, Dad
You know I'm gonna be like you

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you coming home dad, I don't know when,
But we'll get together then
You know we'll have a good time then

My son turned ten just the other day,
He said thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw, I said not today
I got a lot to do, he said that's OK
And he, He walked away, but his smile never did, and said
I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you coming home dad, I don't know when,
But we'll get together then
You know we'll have a good time then

Well, he came from college just the other day,
So much like a man, I just had to say
Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while
He shook his head, and he said with a smile
What I'm feeling like, dad, is to borrow the car keys
See ya later, can I have them, please

August, I watched all your videos last night with my family on our big screen plasma. My kids couldn't get enough, one of my 7 year old twin girl's said "that's what I want to do!"
I was a very proud daddy arborist watching your videos.......they put goose bumps on my arms.8)

Funny, I got to see the video now with the sound, and your soundtrack was Cat Stevens.

Video is always better with a soundtrack. Keep 'em coming!

I've never thought about Skype. I'm not much of a technology guy... Plus it seems like once I get going in the morning I don't stop until the day is over. The day just seems to fly by when I'm at work. Do you use Skype now? I wonder how quick it is to connect a call with someone on that?

My partner does have a wife and a 4yo daughter, and another on the way in 2 months.

The power wagon is awesome. Much more useful than I ever imagined. I'm kind of surprised more tree guys don't have them. And, the best part is that the kids love riding on the thing.
