That accent

Any sources for Stihl chain? I'm looking for 33RS .050" 3/8" 105 DL. Amazon has one in full skip for $65, but shipping is way out.

I go for a shallow vertical face on valuable timber. 80% of the diameter across the face (if needed) not 1/3 of the tree depth. Very often can just shave the root flare - I try never to go deeper than the first cut the mill might take to "skin" the log.

A closed face creates a pulling hinge. An open face creates a bending hinge. And then there's back cut height...

It is pronounced "steal", right? Just with a German spelling.

The mills and tree cos are the only log trucks. No independent trucks any more.

Went and looked at some trees needing cut (pretty good sized job) and some machines for sale. Small walkabout in gorgeous weather, good for the soul, didn't realize that was what I needed. Took some pretty pictures.

Tons of rot, but there are a lot of solid sections, sadly very short because a line clearance co took it down. There are no log trucks to hire. My guy cut ten feet of frame off his log truck and put a dump body on it last summer.

I remembered this thread after my foray into acquiring the large D handles for my 064 and 044 saws. This seller on eBay has what seems like Stihl OEM parts, not knockoffs. I can't vouch for all prices, but at least some are better than my local dealer. Not to say cheap :). Might be worth a...

How much do you think you will you lose to the heart rot? From the pics, it looks substantial on some of the pieces.
