My left handed Felco 9 arrived today. Slightly different feel from the Felco 2, but since its for my left hand side it should only take a day to get used to. The other day I was thinking of the Felco 20 also. But when it came to ordering, I opted for the slightly longer Felco 210 A with curved blade. It's still compact. Should arrive tomorrow. Today was my first lengthy use of the Zenport electric hand pruner. I used it for 4 hours on the Wisteria and the battery lights indicated 2/3 power remaining. It worked good.

Here's my old collection from years ago. Some I still have. The electric hand pruners have an attachment that can substitute for the long handle pruner toward the top.

I've seen and tried the ARS, but like FELCO better. The ARS area about 50% the price on Amazon. One thing that's certain about FELCO ... I've got two of them used professionally since 1984 and 1985. That's over 30 years. I don't have any ARS tool that's come anywhere close to that longevity. I found ARS loppers better than corona, but the Felco 20 is leaps and bounds the best lopper I ever owned. It got lost after 15 years somehow, and I plan to replace it. The "CORONA" stamped on these FELCO hand pruners proves their age. An older man at the Felco corporation confirmed that Corona distributed for them in parts of the USA until 1985. Comfort may boil down to each person's choice when picking a brand. Some like rotating handles. For me, those were a nuisance. I always take time whenever I'm in a landscape center or chainsaw shop to handle saws and pruners. It's something Amazon and catalogues don't offer a leap over the hurdle for.

FWIW ... the manual on the Zenport unit I got said not to use in rain. I don't know about Felco or other brands. And I generally don't like pruning fruit trees in the rain anyway. The other brands may say similar, but I don't know. A guy from the local Texas Roadhouse came over tonight and we did a test shoot for my new Canon EOS R camera. We used the Zenport pruner for one of our props.

I ordered one more tool today, additionally. LEFT HANDED Felco 9 hand pruners. Considering I will still use hand pruners in conjunction, I got the Felco 9 for my extra scabbard to wear on my left side. I have two Felco 2's but it's a nuisance to use the right handed Felco two in the left hand because the blade / handle latch needs handing back to the right hand to close. Thankfully handsaws fit both right or left hand the same. There was a Corona version of the Felco 9's but I decided to stick with the Felco like my other ones.

1st time using the new Canon EOS R in the redwood forest. Normally I don't use primes, but we were shooting portraits and this is taken with the RF 50mm 1.2

Between the smooth surface and nice lighting in that spot, I found both the actual place and the photo practically soothing to look at. That was one of the 70-200mm photos, taken close to 180mm.

Here's another one. Google Earth / Maps says this is "Bull Creek Flats Rd." ... with Mattole showing to begin near the Rockefeller Loop.

So many pretty views there the other day. I was very much enjoying the poison-oak vine colors. This is the first couple minutes into Mattole Rd.. Bet you've been around this corner a hundred times.

Went to the Avenue of the Giants yesterday. The light and fog was better than hoped for in the morning. Enjoyed the poison-oak showing autumn color up the trunks. I may try this as a 16 x 32 inch print canvas.

I have a laser, but it's fairly useless for a hedge like the one shown above that needs to somewhat follow a grade that drops and rises.

Don't think I shared this one yet, unless I missed flipping a page when checking. It reminds me of a picture window view.

Thank you! I had forgotten. It seemed that maybe you had included a photo in one of your books of the photos you took from the bend in that one road of the fir trunks. I seem to recall seeing them. I was thumbing through your Jedediah Smith book yesterday to see if I could spot them, but there's lots of photos. Here's something from a month or two ago. Its still really dusty, but regardless, this is my favorite time of day. This was near Howland Hill Rd..

Gerald !!! When we were near Jedediah Smith park, you were looking at or photographing some fir trees. True firs "Abies". Can you refresh my memory on what type of species of Abies grow around there? I was enjoying the bark on this one I saw the other week.

As you mentioned, that particular red ... sort of faded, facing shade seems difficult to get the color from. The greens on the sprouts are like the opposite to contend with.

It was rather dark to get a good photo under this tree, but it's still rather interesting. The bright green sprouts up on the trunk were very bright and cheery. Reminds me of an asparagus patch.

In much of the United States, grooms never look backward while waiting for the first look part of the ceremony when the bride approaches ... until they are given the green light to turn and face her, which is typically when the bride is closer than the space shown in the photo. Odds are most marriage planners would guess what stage of the ceremony that was, from seeing it happen weekly or monthly.

The "early morning" you mentioned sure helps on Howland Hill Rd. this time of year. Mid-day and sunny the dust really pops in the light. But early morning, the soft fog still does the trick.

I try to photograph when the sun isn't it's brightest yet, and tend to underexpose. Then brighten the entire image in lightroom and slide the highlights slider to decrease the highlights. So the Canon 5DS doesn't have dynamic range that's great, but I just underexpose by about 1 or 2 stops quite often. So far, I don't really like HDR. My 5DS can do it in camera. But I don't like it for forest. For cities and buildings sometimes. But I'd rather shoot one frame and work with it. My friend just got the Sony A7iii which is supposed to have great dynamic range. But I doubt I'd switch. It seems like great dynamic range isn't better than waiting for the best light in the forest. PS ... There's path beyond the bridge along walker rd. on the right side between the old burly trees. Not Simpson Reed .. but the other side of the bridge.
