Hi, and welcome! Your best bet is to find a pesticide applicator arborist in your area and get a consultation. From your description, I suspect the blue spruce is a goner though.

No doubt, Rich. Good move and very cool pic! I'd probably be hesitant to fuck with them, no matter what client/ boss says... could be dangerous especially if there's unseen ( or un-laid) young involved. Plus they're just gorgeous, and protected by state law almost everywhere. They might hangout there for a long time too. Ditto, Brian. Had to be a pretty awesome experience!

Ever see any damage to the rope from Gibbs + tirfor? I've heard talk of ascenders/ rope grabs severing ropes and leaving flat spots on the rope.

Was shitty planning. Shitty cut, shitty rope placement, and shitty lowering from groundie. There was plenty of time and room to let it run some, but climber made that situation in the first place. I do appreciate that he shares his mistakes. Allows newbs to learn from someone else's bad experiences. Probably.

I saw some supplier selling rake heads that mount on Jameson poles. Cool idea, and probably pretty useful arborist times.

Those are all pretty adorable, Boss. Except this guy. This one needs an exorcism.

What's the reason? Seems like it'd take some uncommon circumstances for the pin to accidentally disengage.

I keep a Gibbs still for a pine lanyard, but switched to distel hitch with micro pulley for most work. On a 25' piece of velocity, it's like another little system.

I've only ever used rope fliplines. Gibbs still functions fine if covered in pitch/ sap. Good for dedicated pine lanyard.

Still, if most of them are limited to ladders and aerial trucks. Probably take an act of God to justify the cost for a department.

That article really leaves more questions than it answers. Very sad. Also feeling bad for the firefighters and rescue team. Chances are they're good at what they do, but due to training or equipment (or likely both), they weren't prepared for this rescue. I wonder how useful a 100+ foot tracked lift could be to a technical rescue team...

I use the bolt on my lanyard, pin for any other applications. Jerry had a cool ascension setup with 3 of them in the Fundamentals book if I remember correctly. Frog/ rope walker type setup. Lot's of really cool new gear coming out every time I turn around it seems. The old Gibbs and similar rope grabs will always be incredibly useful though.

Those look excellent, got me drooling. Somehow my break from keto around the holidays turned into a couple months. Was hitting the sugar pretty hard, and gained 6 pounds. So strictly back on it 48 hours ago. Dinner was a big antipasto salad with bleu cheese dressing.
