I think they reeved the block while it was sitting on the front deck, and then he simply boomed up, causing it to swing out. We always set them on the ground right under the lowered boom tip, sometimes with the front outriggers retracted with the back ones tipping the boom as low as it can get (aka where we can reach it). A simple tag line would have prevented that (pun intended), as would booming up if the block would feed line (likely no). Basically it was being run by people with no damn clue

20 dollar grill that one of the foreman has, does alright. A proper charcoal pipeline grill is on the to do list, just haven't had the time or the room on the rig, it'll be coming (with detailed pics and instructions) later. The layout work is intensive, and the finishing is incredibly annoying. I do carry a dual fuel Colman stove, and i got some cast iron for it finally, we're slowly gonna start mixing up our menu lol. Not me obviously. https://youtu.be/KPE0MtZWHN0

Welcome!!! You are correct in that this is a great place to learn. As far as leaving stuff in trees overnight, i personally do it all the time, just be sure to coil it up off the ground so someone with a mower doesn't get it. That is what i personally do, i understand it's kinda a no no, but in mountaineering they leave fixed lines up all the time, and i accept the risk after pulling it down to check (tie the ends together to form a loop).

Congrats and good luck finding a good ground guy Brian, I'm sure you two can whip someone into shape! And i definitely agree having good crew members adds to production greater than the sum of its parts. And good luck on contract negotiations Justin, never a fun time when strikes are mentioned. My local hasn't had a hard-core strike since 82, so if it's mentioned at all here it's a big deal. We have had a few pickets on a few jobs, but those are usually quickly resolved. Hopefully you guys come to a quick and fair agreement, that reflects the business realities and the living expenses realities.

Dragging up means to quit a job, often unexpectedly to the contractor, it's usage is as common as the word "the" in construction. Everyone I've ever worked with has known it, and I've worked with people from all over... they even call a transfer tank in a pickup a drag up tank lol. Both of these terms are so common i know that the phase drag up tank is actually used in union contracts (which are legal documents), and i think even the term drag up might be too.

 well played sir, well played.... Do they not use the term drag up in Michigan tho? I thought that was pretty much part of the English language. This will be the first winter I about 5 years I've worked outside or at all, been nice to hang with the family all winter.

Lol i almost cried the first gravel road i had to go down lol. The standing joke at work is that the traffic flaggers need to set up a perimeter around it hahahahaha. Wayyyyy to nice for the likes of me. Now the inside of the bed is actually getting dented and scratched, but it is completely unavoidable doing any work. I'll get some pics tomorrow if i remember.

It's a long bed, with a quad cab, but i have to climb up in there to get tools and run leads and stuff, not to mention I'm trying not to scratch anything. My old boss had a long bed, but he cut the frame off right behind the axle so he would have the long wheelbase but easier to turn around. Brand new truck lol, i don't have that card in the deck yet!!!

I dunno Justin, i love old trucks too but I'm loving my new one!!! The redneck skid I built actually works pretty well, now i just need a fifth wheel and a camper to round it off. That and a bed on it, and I'll be set for awhile. That reminds me i should probably start drawing up prints for that and clean my garage so i can hopefully build that soon. Might do it after work at the shop we have here too.... decisions, decisions....
