Thanks all. Deader than dead Stig. GP, the Stihl battery saw has less power but makes a neater pruning cut with that tiny chain. The Husky is great for limbing and logs not wider than its guidebar. Beyond that sucks the battery pretty fast. Does not make you any more productive, but the thing is you get used to the quietness, no tickover, no pullstart, no gas etc. You switch it on and off with your thumb as you pick it up or hang it back on your saddle. You can get a ton of work done and nobody even knows you've started. I was fortunate that I got to borrow one before I bought ....but soon realised it was well worth the money for me. Cant speak for everyone else but I like it a lot for the reasons above. Next best thing for me is a ported MS 150 which I have. Like an angy wasp when you mod it. Brilliant. Wouldn't waste money on the echo

Hey Gary. Its my climbline, doubleling as a support line when I took the top in the opposite direction. Otherwise it wasnt really doing a lot.

Dave just used his weight, no need for 2:1. I had to bring the spar down to about 15 ft before I could fall it. I have 2 gopros. Ones seen better days. And a Drift camera too. They all really good cameras but they always being superceded now days bu newer versions. So you can't get new batteries when the old ones wear out.

I just watched that footage again out of curiosity. At no point does the rigging line touch my chest as far as I could tell. Perhaps you were mistakenly seeing the climbline

True Ben. Andy called the next day. I shouldve thought to let you know, sorry. Thanks all for the kind words about Gaz. He was a rough fella with a rep that preceded him. Probably beat up as many men as Ive had posts here. But at work he was always a diamond. Always respectful of his co workers, and good for a laugh. He also had a rep with us for sending trees sideways. On his first day he put one right on top of Andys chipper....we never let him live that one down :D I can only imagine a person mind must be in a terrible desperate state to do what he did in the end. I dont feel particularly bad about it, right or wrong, because he had 50 + years and took the decision to end it himself. Not like visiting a childrens hospice, where little kids cope and see out their death sentance before some even reach their teens. I dont believe the heartbreak is even comparable. So, yeah, f___ it.

Thanks, that was a beech. Heavy. The guy who ran the ropes that day, Gaz, committed suicide by hanging a couple weeks ago. Early 50s.

That pic was 2010, Sean. That same hardware looks every bit as good today, still get used. I really look after the gear. A couple my 3/4 lines are looking a little worn around where Id be tying hitches and knots for catching big logs etc. Not much you can do about that. Whether i was contracting or more recently using contractors for help, the guys generally catch on pretty fast and get the hang of things. Many of them seem to enjoy playing a key role in fact, if you give them a chance

Never thought about it until now, lol. For arguments sake, if i only averaged at 5 trees a day through 300 days per year, its still 1500 trees. X 30, its a lot.

It dont actually mattter, lol but is neither that far fetched. Even if I only worked 300 days of the year at 5 trees a day. Thats 1500 a year. Never really thought about ut until now :D

Its gotta be up there give or take. Minimum 1 a day. Maximum perhaps 20 a day over 30 years.

Thanks Brian. I should say that the guys on the ground here are both self employed and payed by the day, not the hour....so its also in their interests to keep things moving and flowing as easy and quick as possible so we can all get home faster. They seasoned guys too, ones a 12 year arborist, the other was a faller for decades before changing direction and becoming a heli pilot. Anyway, cedit to them, itd be a different job with the wrong ground crew. GP, without looking back over the footage it was as uneventful climb as tens of thousands of others ive been involved in. In general everything is deliberate and I know exactly what I can get away with. I think with having many crane removals under my belt in the past too, Im rarely moved or unnerved having limbs, logs and lines swinging around me. I move only when I have too. Thats my best answer.

Thanks again. We had a good trip, Stig. Its been a great summer for it in fact. Maybe we can do one more camp before the rains come. Pic attached of Buttle lake, Strathcona provncial park....14 miles of it. Cory the grip/spur image was just a bit of BS really. I was trying convey to need to brace onself through the negative rigging stage....for those who watch the vids but dont do tree work. As it turned out this occasion was sorta non eventful. I said about patience because of the windows along side the closest house, and the satellite dish. I didnt want the guys getting excited and rushing then swing a butt right through the window or rip the dish off the wall. It was important to keep then calm and focused throughout. Seen too many defeats snatched out of the jaws if victory, due to a moments complacency. All the wood stayed. Ill take eithe a sling or carabiner straight onto the wood. The latter you just need to be a little more concious how its aligned.

Pruning a Gary oak today. Shed a big limb just a couple of weeks back. Owners are worried about the grandkids playing underneath. End weight reduction hopefully makes it less likely to shed any more for a while. Hot day, with a really bad toothache throughout....the worst Ive ever had in fact. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/cHJ08Km_bMQ" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>
