Simpson chainsaw-powered capstans are smooth, as are a lot of capstans.

Dayum! Compatible with larger than 1/2" rope that the Maasdam is limited, too. Maybe better on smoother braided ropes, too.

I'm impressed at the sales. You have figured out a good system, like selling firewood bundles at an 4x's per cord price. $5/ bag will make it worth filling. Easy, low-risk work, if you have a bag-holder stand and funnel or something.

A stitch, in time, saves 9. Over the years, I've found out that when things aren't working as designed, stop. The consequential headaches are too much. Sorry. that sucks. The whole saw not running over a minor mechanical thing.

Had a new guy start today. My current employee is back from being sick. Easy job, mostly speed lining, free dropping some, and a bit of lowering. Happy homeowner named Benjamin ;). Tomorrow we'll do some more work-work. Dead fir wedge overs and pull trees, about 20 to do overall, not tomorrow. See how the new guy does. Worked for his 2 uncles' tree service, who mostly did bucket work, NC rigging, with the rare backyard climbing job. Muni contracts. Has flown a bucket a bit, run a grapple truck a bit. 5 years with them...old school, but ironed up. From Chicago, where buckets reach a good amount of things, and flat flat flat.

Everyone thinks stuff is magic. A guy had a hard time imagining that I didn't want to grind up his asphalt driveway to get to the root protruding beneath, packed in the gravel base for the, oh ya, asphalt.

You're in a hot bed of illegal immigrants, Brian, right? What do you think should be done? Immigration is a tough cookie. Especially for immigrant European Americans. You know how the Italians got to be WOPs? With Out Papers. A lot of Irish were WOPs, too, and lots others. My family has been here for 2 and 3 generations, don't know if they came with papers. How far back should we go? Last I checked, no Native Americans were ever in power in the US. A few probably were, at some point, clearly, but you know what I mean. Topic for another thread.

Not a question for you, Mick. Glad it was not worse. My roommate accidentally let the other roommate's (blmd-affected...balding, little-man disease) pitbull push past him. The dog started to maul a shar-pei/ something mix being walked on a leash, by a frantic woman right in front of the house. It was a yell from my roommate as warning, and the pitbull was out for blood, on the shar-pei mix in about a second. I got bit in the middle of it. Shoulda just started kicking my roommates' dog, rather than get bitten on the hand. When pulling them apart, one turned around and nipped me, IIRC the pitbull. BLMD roommate had a Harley and a jacked-up pick-up. Probably so endowed, he was tripping over his own... BLMD roommate blamed everyone else. Never an apology. I'm not a violent person, and I wanted to slug the BLMD roommate. The guy in my room in that house before me had beaten the shit outta BLMD roommate, I later found out from roommate #3, which was likely due to someone running their mouth who shouldn't have. I moved out the next month. My friend has been charged by the uncontrolled dog while running. I've seen stray dogs, or dogs on leashes that people walk right past children, like mine, and I say to myself, do I 100% trust that unfamiliar dog that is right around little kids' face level. My young nephew had to get stitches in the eyelid and ear from the family beagle, which I understand from my brother, who found out after the fact that they will try to dominate kids.

Are those flat "rings" of wood cut in a wave shape, rather than woven?

I've always wondered what a well-placed boot the to face or side would do to to a charging dog.

What makes it worth $800 in the first place? Why would they not just exercise their free-market right to say, "No Thanks"?

Mick, does storm work cost less to perform or the same, so should be charged at lesser or normal rates? Does it cost more to perform and worth more, so should be charged higher, without feeling like you're gouging people, unless you're gouging people?

Look inside the driver's door for stickers. If you need a CDL and don't have one, you're in big trouble if stopped. Juice-brakes?

Storm work costs are way higher: increased personal risks and greater skill set needed, increased wear and tear on bodies and equipment without healing time/ maintenance time, increased loss/ damage of tools due to fatigue (just gonna happen), overtime pay, increased risk to WC rates, increase likelihood of thefts, loss of personal time, increased personal costs because of working so much (childcare, eating out, elder care), etc.

Looks like my friend Dan the welding Man is there to save the day, fixing my throttle arm on my loader, bringing it back into action once I have a new battery hold-down clamp. D is on the mend after a week of being sick. Likely to school tomorrow. She is crashed on the laundry room floor at the moment, with a pillow, where she had been watching out the 'backyard' though the glass door.
