Levi, I found in short time the sweep business had a lot of what burnt me out on the tree business. Customers. Y'all can have em. I'm done dealing with Joe public. I'm not so much a people person, unless it's the right people.

Correct. Usually I work straight through one week and the weekends before and after. And then for the following three weeks I only work the weekends. But I can pick and choose. Like last week I did four days and this week I'm picking up the fifth day (tonight) and then after my two weekend shifts I'll be off all next week. This last time I also chose to do all graveyards for my 8hr shifts because it's nice and cool and graveyard shifts are only seven hrs long(but paid for 8 still), 1hr of which is paid breaks. if I work anything more than those five extra days in four weeks it's straight OT. Gravy.

I'm not sure if you had vamoosed before or after I sold my tree business(was lucky to be able to do so) , f-caked around for a bit chimney sweeping and then went to work at a local plywood mill. Union, great pay, benefits, pension. Zero stress. Such a flip from being self employed. Now I worry about nothing for work. Got a locker there my boots don't even come home with me. Vending machine spits out any ppe I need for free. Zero concerns, show up with my lunch. I also work a different shift there which allows me loads of free time for enjoying life. I put in two 12hr shifts a weekend which nets me 30hrs pay, then only work another five 8hr shifts every four weeks to top up to 40hrs a week. So I work way less than I did when self employed. Way less. For me it's been a great decision. Yes I'm not in charge of anything. Lol. but then again, I'm not in charge of anything! Despite the work being repetitive and what most would consider boring. I really like the machines/process and find it very chill. My stress levels are way down. I still hang out here at The House, not because I miss treework. Just because I like y'all. Lol.

I pulled a knife once when I was a youth. Stopped a potential beating from two assholes. They had already chucked me down some steps and had verbalized they were gonna f-ck me up. One of them was the size of a linebacker. It was even a butterfly knife yo! Lol.

Everyone hopes for that. Shit happens though and most of it can be avoided if cooler heads prevail. But if it does hit the fan a little forethought can go along ways in not having to be a victim.

You don't. You put it away in a ziploc. But one, I don't ride in the rain by choice, and two I don't really run the risk of tickets if I do. Where I live is considered semi-desert. Rain is not a big concern. Radars have come along ways. I used to think my old bel had good range too. There's a plethora of information on the web about detectors now and I researched the living hell out of it. The uniden r1 has the best range of any detector for sale, this I'm confident of. The r3 version of it has a gps chip too which I don't really need so I saved the coin on the non gps version. Same detection sensitivity. You can pay twice as much or more for a detector with less range and more false alerts.

Here they're legal to buy. But it's illegal to whallop someone with one. And if you carry one for self defence you will get eaten up by the law/courts if you use it. Best off to only have tools, not weapons at ones disposal. Then if an emergency arises and you use a tool for self defence, so be it. It wasn't a pre-meditated carrying of a weapon. That's the only reason I don't carry one.

Yah I've had one forever but recently upgraded to a uniden r1. Top rated, great price, great false alert filtering too. Completely programmable to eliminate false alerts from bsm, radar assisted cruise and all that jazz. The extreme long range description is accurate too. Just another tool in the box, certainly no guarantee by any means.

To update the functionality of these cardo units a bit ill bump this thread. So now that I've had a bit more time with them their operation is quite impressive. We have extremely good range for comms, crystal clear and automatic re pairing if we do go out of range. The comms are live all the time which is nice for riding, no finicky buttons to find or push. The normal operation is digital mesh comms live all the time, music streaming which automatically diminishes slightly when conversation happens, and also I am now pairing a radar as a second (or third depending how you look at it) connection which is set to override comms and music when an alert occurs. Delivering radar warnings right to my ears. All priorities and volumes are infinitely adjustable through an app or through button prompts on the device. For biking these are definetly the way to go. Feature rich and flawless function. The next upgrade eventually for me will be the jbl speaker option which is supposed to be sweet.
