Honestly it was pretty much a relaxing beach vacation, just hanging out eating and drinking. Drinking homemade 30+ year old Calvados from a friend's grandparents farm was pretty awesome! Paris was a great city to walk in, awesome architecture, history everywhere. My first trip abroad in ages, didn't budget enough.. Ran out of money before I could make it down your way, would have really liked to see wine country though. Maybe next time:rockhard:

One of the companies in my area runs exclusively single wheel 3/4 ton pickups with dump inserts and wooden sideboards up over cab height. Probably sends out 3-4 crews a day, all gear in the bed... Been around for 30+years. It might not be ideal, but it's definitely a setup you can run as a successful business (at least in Maine)

Nice splice man! Throat looks a bit chunky, but not crazy. Used rope is a real s.o.b. splice game is only going to get easier for you.

Small diesel pickup truck. Toyota Hilux or similar. The gd chicken tax (25% tariff on small truck imports to US) makes this my white whale borderline obsession. Just want good fuel economy and torque with some payload/towing capacity. Would love to hear from anyone who has imported a diesel vehicle into the US. I was just livid seeing the new Ford ranger in France last month!

Used old rope? If so, I'd recommend practicing on a few bit of new stuff first, used can be miserable to splice. Also, be sure to end up with a nice sexy taper from the eye down. And bumps substantially weaken a splice.

I've often thought about a block mounted central, just a foot in from the chip box door, and one near the cab. with a portable winch and tag line seems like you could float logs up with the first block, then drag back with the second one... Never seen it done tho

Nice bump! I still love it for pruning jobs. HH is my go to for take downs, but the easy on/off really shines for tip work in spready oaks. It doesn't love pitch, but no device or hitch does. I think it's a great tool to own if you do much work on decurrent trees, it makes redirects a snap. If mostly excurrent pruning or removals, stick with the HH. Tim, can we get a picture of you or some of your work on the site? You're a great contributor, but it feels a bit impersonal talking to a faceless person sometimes.

Don't let the VT brigade talk you out of a hitch you're liking though. If the security is working for you, run it! Might also like the diestel and knut. Vt is a great hitch too tho. Good tip for getting a VT to grab better is to tie the hitch, then twist the eyes 180/360 degrees before clipping the carabinier. One direction of twist tightens the hitch, other loosens

I made a few clamping stump vises when I was doing all that island work earlier this year. Vertical Bore cut about 2"down from top, then cut from top right next to the bore. Then cut horizonal a few inches down from the bottom of your first cut. Hold the saw in the second cut and wedge the horizontal to close the vise. This one looks way easier!

9 mil epi on Yale 11.7 ropes with 5 wraps is pretty sweet for my 195 lbs self. Best combo I've used, tends great, sets when tied snug, smooth descent.

I wonder if that lower shackle would play well with the HH2? I do sometimes have issues with cross loading, I think the shackle setup would help with tending too. Is Richard on this forum? Send like a nice creative fella who would get on well here

Jed replied to a thread 2511T VS CS 355 T in Chainsaws!
Modds are neither here nor there. The 355 has more cc's which makes it a bigger saw. Don't watch August Hunnike videos. Mods are neither here nore there. All proprerly done mods will increase cc potential. If you want something akin to a 200t, then get the 355. But still... muffler mod it, at least. The other smaller Echo... muff mod, at least. All muff mods are going to (with Echo) do a great deal of good. Those saws are heavily restricted, and the mufmod ALWAYS does worlds of good.
