Good point, I feel that machine feeding regularly is asking for damage to the stop bar and feed roller mechanisms. More pressure than our light euro machines can handle, we lay branches on the feed tray often but usually just dump the stuff in front, which is what we were mostly doing that day.

Lombardy day today, 6 of them. Lady luck smiled on us, wind in just the right direction to drop the tops next to the chipper.

There was a film starring Goldie Hawn from the 70s where she drove in a beetle along a coast road in California in the opening titles, finishing near the Golden Gate Bridge. Always thought that was a nice looking drive. Funny the things you remember.

Think it’s sorted out the”””” issue, which is good. And the use of accents comme Dites moi ou vous Ítes. Good work Brandon.

Sean, all I was interested in was protecting my dog, if a dog that big actually got hold of him it could be curtains in seconds, before I could have intervened. People with tiny gardens, who clearly cannot control dogs like this do my head in, like getting a puma or a bear.

Out walking on a regular Sunday walk with the wife and Igor (on a lead) passing through a little hamlet where a large mastiff type (Dogue de Bordeaux) goes nuts in the garden, manages to slip under a fence and goes for Igor, I manage to pick him up before he gets to him but he jumps and somehow breaks the skin on Igor’s ball bag, he’s OK. Bleeding has stopped, seems undamaged. Usual story, everyone’s fault but theirs, blah, blah. Gave the owner a piece of my mind, told them they’d be getting a vet’s bill and a visit from the flics. The dog is owned by a woman no more than 8 stone, incapable even of pulling it back into a tiny garden. They also have a Husky. Dumb muthafuckers. And you know what really pisses me off? not one word of apology.

I have done many different jobs including a builders labourer. In tree work, or at least domestic/commercial stuff as opposed to logging the difference is that there are periods of intense work, ie. balls out shouty, get on with it type madness, followed by less crazy periods of clearance/chipping/cutting. Whereas in building work it’s consistent steady work. In tree work you need hustle, at least when shit is getting real, no sauntering, no loitering, job and knock, do it quick and go home. Different worlds.

I guess it depends on what we class as storm work. For me here it’s probably less biblical than what’s going on due to Florence atm.

Storm work is a God given (literally) chance to make really good money in a short period. You have insurance companies by the short and curlies, and it’s when having the iron, the experience and the contacts really pays off. Worrying about loss of personal time or costs caring for the elderly is stupid. Get out there, grab it, then when it’s all done you can rest on a mattress stuffed with $500 dollar bills.
