I hope 7/8 shaft will be beefy enough. Bored some holes for bushings. The spool is 4.5" long, I have a sinking feeling the rope won't grip. I spend $60cad to buy that aluminum 5" dia by 6" long, and all my machining!

Something silly came out of my lathe and a 2000lb hand winch. I wonder if this might work?

Nice iron, Mick! Gary, haha! On the otherside of the fence the neighbours have an open compost bin. I was dropping the small twings into that. ;)

Nice work, Mick! 'Bout time, Nut! My ground help I've had for the past 4 jobs. Not much room for the brush. Other side of shed is a pool. We get the limb down, groundy will cut it up with a hand saw while it dangles. Not much room for a speedline, the brush would just end up in the pool.

No, it should be a brush seating stone. Very soft, it turns to abrasive dust and grinds the brushes down. There are different grades or hardness or softness. A comm stone will condition the commutator or slip rings. Holdens down in the US would have the brush seater. Ask for it by name!

Kyle, you should be able to pickup some brush seater. It would really suck to burn up the comm or slip rings.

Some 22" by 11ft cherry and 23" by 12ft sugar maple. In Brantford. I think I need to squeeze the rails on the bar a bit.

Storms at the begining of the season were great. Still cleaning up from it. Mid August to mid September dies off, people spending money on back to school. The stump grinder and mill were a blessing for me. I can't get every tree, but there are stumps and logs left over often enough. Brush chipping has been good, HO might trim bushes or trees themselves and have no way to deal with it afterwards.

Personally anything slightly rotten for me goes to firewood. I'm travelling over an hour to mill rotten logs for people and they love it.

Good trick! Thanks! The block was set from the ground. The help was told not to touch, go near, or even think about the setyp, I didn't want to climb up to get it if he pulled out the rigging line. (Maadam was on one end and eyesplice with a shackle was the other.)

Sean, the break in the limb and the cable lines holding up the limb that went to 3 different properties, the main lines and the pole's condition were my major concerns. And doing the job solo, but I did manage to scrap up some help. The maasdam rope had an eye splice and 2ton shackle to preserve strength as opposed to a knot. The slings with eyes I had for anchoring were too long and the maasdam would have been out of reach, so I used a short rigging line. I figured the 3strand was going to be a bit overloaded, but I planned on removing much of the limbs weight once it was lifted off the pole.
