There are other options of repairing failed threads .One used by Roush racing as well as Ford Motor company is Time Serts .Unlike a heli coil these things use a forming tap to deform the internal base threads which provides an insert that can't back out .Roush installs them on every Ford engine they modify providing a stronger thread base than could be possible with just threading the aluminum of the engine block . The draw back on using them for just several repairs being the installation drills and taps are costly as compared to a tap drill and tap for a 10 mm hole using an over sized bar stud .In my case it's not a question of if I have them but rather which tool box are they in .

I may be mistaken but if memory serves you use a Stihl 056 bar stud which is 10 mm on the saw side and 8 mm on the bar side . # 1115 664 2405

Nope. Gave up on that position, a driver is what we are in need of today. Hey, how about a supervisor with a CDL, hummm, that would work. Dreaming on...... LOL, had one fellow with the CDL that could not back the truck up. How the heck do you get a CDL with out being able to back a truck up?

Mellow, have you tried Craigs list? I put an ad in the other day and the price is up to $ 45.00. I could not believe it, seems like yesterday I paid 8$ for an ad.

I had those little bastages build a nest under the track of one of my antique D4 Caterpilars .They about ate me up so I bailed out over the side .Not good, the old dozer had a hand clutch .There it went clanking away towards the road and they ate me up again when I jumped back on to disengage the clutch .:(

I think it was an 028 Stihl Farm boss that I became aware of the fact .It had the small splines .Weather it came that way or not or might have been changed I don't know .It wasn't a big deal .From a 4 dollar rim sprocket to an 8 dollar OEM . It's residing in my shed and runs good ,I just don't use it much .

Today was okay, still working on my retirements which is a pain in my behind . Four separate retirements plus social security and 4 401 K's .I went from a journeyman electrician to an apprentice office assistant. Paper work galore ,drives me nuts . I did however manage to cut down to size and split a half a cord of oak .Not bad for an old fart .

Fiona, that is so interesting. We do, of course, see those extreme tides here as well but I feel like the water level in our canal is higher on a consistent basis. Miami is seeing the same.

Here, in the Florida Keys, our Agricultural Extension Office will test soil for free. That might be an option for you up there. Even if they don't do it, they probably know a company that will do it for a nominal cost. Again, here, we have trees that are very salt tolerant and others that are not. Any idea if Douglas Fir is salt tolerant? We have had a few storms that have pushed salt water over our islands and it is always interesting to see which trees it affects and when. After "Wilma", which pushed up to 10 feet of salt water over Marathon, we had Gumbo Limbo trees that looked good for about 3 years, then boom, on the ground they went. The root damage was obvious and then assumed it was from the 4 hours of salt water intrusion. (the water left the island in 4 hours) However, some Gumbos never have failed. This past year, we had Irma which pushed a wall of salt water 12' over certain islands. Some trees went down with the 130 mile per hr winds lol, but it will be interesting to see, in a couple of years, which trees that were left standing were affected by the salt water. Not sure if you have lived in that area long enough to know the answer to this, but are you seeing sea levels rising there? In my 20 years down here, I have seen it here. If I had not seen it with my own two eyes, you would not have been able to convince me that the sea level is rising.

What are you most concerned about, intrusion into what? Root systems, septic systems, water supply?
