Brian, I had to laugh, you could probably design one from scratch that would be perfect!! I'm sure they have great designers, but the man that uses one knows what it needs! And, why are trailer lights always, always a problem? lol

You got that right. Che, so good to read you. I miss the updates on the kids and the cows. So glad you posted, Bermy and I would love the girl power to stick around. How are your children these days? What are they up to? PM me or take the answers to another thread, don't want to derail this one.

You have been to Ethiopia? Along with coffee beans, they mine all types of gemstones. Opal and Emerald some of the best. Did you get wind of any gemstones?

A little side track .With the mention of three phase, there's a trick to everything .I was given an old Westinghouse 400 amp rectifier I rewired for single .However it had too much ripple which I eliminated by making a double pi filter. It's as smooth as silk now .However from going from three phase to single you have to factor in the square root of 3 being 1.73 .So it now puts out about 230 amps which is plenty for what I do and the machine cost me exactly nothing but my time to figure it out .

On large scale manufacturing wire is a lot cheaper than stick .Which is why they went to it .I like others think it's good for sheet metal but not much of anything else .Then again I'm kind of old school on a lot of things .

Part of it was .Those old grumpy half deaf old timers were a hoot .The only way to get along with them is to just grumpy right back at them .That said considering that place built some of the largest steam locomotives in the world followed by some of the largest cranes one can only imagine the size of the machine tools used .It was only until I was in the ship yards at NewPort News Va did I see larger . In my case as a welder it was not out of the ordinary in one 8 hour shift to burn 50 pounds of 7/32" 7024 welding rod .I could see no future of spending my entire life doing that so when I could I left .The works were dismantled in the late 90's and are no more .

A lot of the heavy welding at Baldwin -Lima -Hamilton was done with submerged arc either manual or with a positioner .BLH by the way is the former Lima Locomotive Works where they built the famous Shay gear drive steam locomotives at one time . When I worked there it was all cranes etc .Some of the really big Lima cranes had 2.5 " T1 steel deck pieces that held the ring gears that held the booms .It was a lengthy process to built either a rubber tired or crawler version of these .I've seen them set up with 300 foot of main boom with 100 feet of jib .Let me tell it was an experience .

There's an old trick for welding hard steel .First use something like 7018 with multiple passes no more than about 1.5 times the width of the rod .After you get the proper amount built up use what's called annealing passes on either side .Don't leave craters on the ends of the passes . MIG, microwire inert gas is not the best choice for this type of welding .Best to use electrodes .BTW 7018 is a DC reverse polarity rod .However some make an AC version which works well also .

Thank you for the update. I wasn't looking forward to it but know we are here for you. No Bivy, what is "tube town"? Please, ask what type of help is available to you. I mean in terms of volunteers to help with changing sheets, stuff like that. You will be surprised at the willingness of people that want to help. Don't let the word Hospice scare you, seek what they can offer. You will be amazed at what they can do for you. Google Advance Health Care Directive for LA, it will basically be a form you fill out that directs the doctors what you want and what you don't. . You then would turn that into the VA. Maybe even give a copy to DOC. The VA may even have the form. Pretty sure is will be specific for LA.

Speaking about shoulder .Because of nearly a life time of working with my arms above my head I've developed shoulder problems .Strange as it seems about 3-4 weeks ago I wrenched my left shoulder from starting of all things a Stihl 200T .SOB talk about hurt . I was just in an akward position in a tree trying to start the damned thing with it about shoulder lever . It's getting better .I just have to remember I'm not 30 years old any more .
