I donate the wood to a youth sports program, oak usually. Then the adults and kids assemble on a day with saws, splitters and trailers for delivery at 250.00 a cord. We'll drop 12 cord in an 8 hour day processing. I just volunteer my trucks, trailer, splitters and some saw time. Kids load em up. Older kids splitters. Running about 3. And that is how we get wood to widders.

You get to see those here from time to time too. Had a mated pair that used to stalk me coming home from work when I walked home from the restaurant smelling of everything I prepped and cooked that evening :/: Bob cats can be good sized here too. But they really don't care to be around people much.

I've been sailing since a kid. My uncle had a 40' we would go out together regular. My cousin about a 36. My uncle and some buddies sailed to Hawaii and back. Down to the Panama canal and over into the Bahamas. Cousin went damn near round the world solo. Young adult I got my helmsmans and sailed regular on lakes in MA. Different from ocean, little day sailers and sunfish(?). Did some more out of Rhode Island and New Jersey. Always thought I would eventually end up living on one. One family friend would work construction on Martha's Vinyard Island till fall, sail some wealthy persons yacht down to St Thomas and do construction/contracting all winter there. Then sail back in spring. Seemed like a dream job to me. Life just took me in a different direction. Fond memories and always at peace on the sea. Wish the Navy had taken me when I enlisted, but the asthma made a 4f(?) out of me :(

Scares you when you disturb them in the bush. Like, they figure you'll walk right by, then you start a saw and they come bounding out. Sure can make your heart jump.

If we have to take over 20" logs or whole stumps to the landfill, where they bring in a tub grinder or burn them, we not only pay the 55.00 per ton, but we get a 150.00 premium charge on top per load. Meanwhile, the larger company's doing ROW and roads get paied 40.00 per ton to take them to a transfer station where they grind them up and sell to a bio plant 2 plus hours away. California is ridiculous

It's a she, and she cleans them after and during every feeding. She was just pregnant when we had her fixed, so all the mom hormones were instilled. She also does this with the kittens, even so much as to move them outside to where she wants them The squirrels will nose right down face to face with her tongue cleaning them out of the cage. Fun stuff. We still feed them, but they are in the process of weaning currently... She even guards them from the cats that are our hunters. Laying in front of the cage growling at them....

Been considering on of those augers for our dingosaurus. Seems it would be a good asset for making stuff smaller that ain't worth milling. Or cedar split rail.

Yeah, glad I don't get many of those these days. Loose rocks can ruin your day. I do have a smallish pine coning up on the edge if a cut, over a house I am going to need to self lower to the guys at the bottom. Should make for some fun :/:

I would so dig sitting with a cup of coffee watching that out my window Until livestock were being threatened. We have a family of cats across the street in the vineyard. Never see them much.

I think big double dogs help too. Gives you a proper axis for gunning.

Just curious about this climber. Was he a screamer? Did he get mad about a misunderstanding of an instruction? I'm just interested in the backstory that would cause him to lose a good ground man due to a possible lack of control of this climber's own emotions. I'll understand if it's not something you wish to get into. Thanks. Tim

Like Burnam, I get weird about stuff being off level. My years in construction did that to me. Level and plumb. Every once in a while, my back cut will go high low to apex, but mostly when tired. Just ain't holding my mouth right for the weariness. Just keep practicing and correcting. More experience equals better cutting.

Thanks for the feedback, Gary. For me, when I click on the picture, it launches the Gif in a new tab, on the Imgur website. Thanks again. Initially I don't know if it was doing anything.

  1. Yeah, thanks....we can all learn something if we are open to it. Brian has issues, I reckon...I'll just let him stew and work out his own way to be involved.

I enjoy your posts...glad to have you at the House.
