Someone was kind enough to pass this set along to me at no charge. I am done with it and ready to return the favor. Virtually brand new.

Dang, sorry to hear, Fiona! I've been wearing these for about 10 years, but only if working around stuff like blackberries, holly or hawthorne. Very comfortable. Not cut-proof, but can help minimize. I also carry Celox and bandaids, and have used them in the tree. http://www.ansell.com/en-US/Products/Industrial-Gloves-and-Sleeves/Industrial-Sleeves/kevlar-sleeves-70-118 More here: http://www.ansell.com/en-US/Products/Industrial-Gloves-and-Sleeves/Industrial-Sleeves.aspx

Yes, I noticed that. Just speaking in general terms, not at you directly. Innocent until proven guilty? Ha. To me that's an intellectual concept. Jumping to conclusions is much easier than finding out the facts.

Good story, Rich. I think in any field there are good and bad, and it's very easy to lump all into a category based on the actions of a few.

Recently, I saw a car weaving a little in front of me. When I pulled up to the car at the next redlight, I saw a young girl, with a cigarette and cell phone in the left hand, putting on eyeliner with the right hand.

You have to have a California driver license to buy in California?

I got a DMM swivel two years ago. Single best thing I've done since. Have none of the above mentioned complaints. Like most everything, you'll probably have to try it for yourself.

I see. Hate leaning a ladder against the gutters.

I can see those standoffs working on a flat vertical wall. Can't picture it on an overhang eve, like in the pic. The arms would be touching the roof shingles?

I'd feel better going up if that guy was standing on the bottom step, or at least had his toes blocking the bottom legs. As for rails vs steps, I'd say both/either, depending on the situation at the moment.

Dropped a rope down overnight. Then went back to screen it off. Which type of standoffs would you use on this roof? I see there are many types.

Several years ago I was trying to rescue a squirrel that had fallen into the chimney vent pipe on this house. The cedar shakes and deck had that slick green moss scum. I put a rubber mat under the ladder feet and thought I was good to go. Was just about to make the first step to the roof and the ladder slipped out. Fortunately I was tied off. The rope caught me, my toe caught the ladder, and there I was.

I'd be hard pressed to think of an example where I would go back with a lower price, and even harder pressed to think of when I would raise the price after a quote. In writing, or my word, no difference. If the bid was too low, I'd just suck it up, do the same quality job, and write it off to experience. If the bid was too high, I might even turn in a lower bill (depending on how much I valued a future relationship with them). 100% of my jobs are from referrals or repeat customers. I don't ask if they are getting other bids, but if I sense they are, I will often give out 2-3 other companies names and suggest they call to compare. Don't really want a "low-price" customer. I don't put any correlation to rich-poor and cheap. Some people just can't afford, and others just choose not to. But cheap exists at every level.

Interesting. Excellent video! I, too, have always gone "over" on the first cross. Will try it next time out.
