Still , the fact remains as a large truck mechanic once told me "there are only so many revs built into any motor" ... I've had at least six 372's that went from showroom new to junk in a few years , whatever , I totally accept it ... Gives not hundreds , not thousands , but hundreds of thousands good cuts before it dies.

Every time I lost something on the job and couldn't find it I have gone back a day or two later alone with no time or job pressure and search again. High success rate with this tack , and I often think , shit I went right by it yesterday.

Exactly like Skis ... When I joined Ski Patrol and got some "free" new boards that went immediately into hard pro use , people I worked with said " you bought them to use them". Even taking extra good care after two maybe three years they just don't respond the same. I figure three years for saws with big use , usually hit a point where it's constantly breaking by then ... Use it for $100 towards next new one. ... Edit , I do rebuild the saws I like that aren't available anymore

If mine ever turns up on eBay , I'll be extra mad at my "friend" who borrow and not return it ... I figure eventually he'd feel guilty at some point maybe when he cleans his house or moves and return it , he runs a feller buncher now anyways , so it's not like he really needs it.

After all the worn out and dog hair impregnated Velcro on various gear from my snowmaking and ski patrol years I just never went there for spikes. Still use old school straps

Appreciation of all the input here as I tried them in some Hemlocks today , there is JUST enough contact to the heel so the lower strap has to be tight enough , one slipped off the heel today when I was done and on my way down so no big deal.

To do this without spending Shekels is best scenario ... Just luck I have the Hoffman's , with good socks are by far the warmest Winter Boots I've ever owned (Makes Sorel's weak and a waste of money by comparison) so I hope it works. (Have a friend with a foot injury quite similar to Ger's , has had hell trying boots since. She bought them and they didn't work sold them to me. I might never have ordered such a good boot.)

As Ralph Stanley said when asked a few years back why he continued to tour extensively "... Well , I need the money". So as unpleasant as it may get around here we try to pick the good days to even try. I've removed six caulks from the Hoffman's (without the little wrench) and the spikes do fit , wider boot so it doesn't rest w boot shank right on the flat bottom of leg iron ... Almost though and seems that in two spots the contact at the heel may lock it in well enough , really not sure though (perhaps with true weight on them they will seat down a little more better). Since usually wrap low strap around the spike I should have enough to get around bigger boot skipping wrap.

...okay , checked ... Seems it will be remove as few as two as many as six caulks to open up the slot depending on how my Klein's line up. As far as the heel it is 1/2" which looks quite a bit shorter than your pic. Hoping it's enough to stand the gaff. Can't believe I never thought of it before , I do break out the boots when the weather is super cold , the ground is Ice or both.

Aside from all important insulation the other big difference is the rubber , just as the car talk guys explain that Snow Tires have a different tread than Summer tires yes but they are also manufactured out of a softer rubber than summer tires (Which greatly improves traction). Walking around on snow and ice in Wesco's feels exactly like summer tires in winter.

Hmmmm.... Get's my gears turning , I have some Hoff's w Caulks though. I'm fairly sure they are the removable type , in which case I could pull out the ones that would be in the way of leg iron under the shank area and maybe rule the current Winter's Bitch Conditions ... Tree House Rocks
