Nah...when in doubt do it. Take the time to add a strap when that niggling voice makes you wonder if you need the strap...a few minutes. Don't add the strap and really needed it...that little voice becomes an eternal shout that says, "why didn't you pay attention???"

You are so right to explain those stubs! Boss here (MB) has a rule.... "no stubs!!" That was probably his first comment to me years back when I posted a work picture..."no stubs". That was it...succinct, smart and it stuck. I do leave one sometimes to contain my top rope to descend...but those stubs invariably snag something later if I leave any. NO stubs! Good rule. Good work there, Patrick. Is that a long yellow strap (if so, what's it for?) or did the bark tear that far???? That's gotta be a strap in the last picture?

In one clip it looked to have a two pronged "U" termination that probably hooked into clothing...done on bare skin it might puncture a bit..less than a bullet, though. OK...you got me curious...I just found their spec sheet...it shows what I thought I saw:

Tree guys are all about control...we use ropes and gear to create situations where we can minimize danger as we control dangerous limbs and loads. We usually have the luxury of time to study, rig and control danger. Our use of rope becomes 2nd nature. Law enforcement folks deal with danger often, too...but they usually have only options of (empty) hands on a perpetrator or a firearm to control a bad situation...and time to make decisions is short compared to us. I have long wondered why law enforcement does not use rope (2 men, one 20-30 foot rope) to subdue bad guys (or mental patients) armed with knives or sticks...but it would probably take too much training to make it efficient. This new tool for LEO's is awesome...based upon the bolo. A long overdue tool that spans the gap from lethal to non-lethal reaction. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/5SywpLbxAYs" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Local hoodlums up there. We pressed assault charges. In part of the fight I hit my guy 3 times in the groin (he was over me...I was on my back in about 8 inches of water...he had charged me, I dropped down between his legs and he ended right over me...I hit him 3 times from underwater...not real accurate because he was still in the fight but it bought me some time). Anyway, the sheriff asked me later what I did to the guy because he was tip-toeing around when he arrested him...the sheriff also said he wished I had just killed him. I still remember the names...Richard and Kenneth McAllister. Brothers who had a "posse" that liked to beat up city guys like us on the weekends...claimed we were up there using their river and taking their women (I ain't making this up). The sheriff said the weekend before they jumped us they had put a GA Tech student in the hospital with a fractured nose...nice guys. I started trying to figure out how to mount a handgun inside my kayak after that but finally got over it...wouldn't have been worth killing somebody. I learned to be real careful what strangers I asked questions of. Looking back, there were signs that trouble was afoot but being young and sassy John and I ignored them. Wrong decision.

Rich, add some ATF to the fuel tank once in a while. A pint or so is good. Cleans and lubricates injectors better than any additive you can buy off the shelf. Ask any diesel expert. I do it with all my diesels. Trucks, chippers, whatever. And I'm in the same spot with my '97 F450 7.3. Need to pull the engine to replace the oil pan gasket. Not leaking much but enough to make it all cruddy under there. Going to hit it with a pressure washer before bringing it in to get fixed at some point.
