Packed lunch for the majority of my working life although once whilst running a training course one of the trainees had a land rover with a big gas burner on the back for when he camped out. He stopped a bit earlier one day and brewed up fresh tea and cooked us all Bacon and egg rolls which we stood in the wood eating whilst it was snowing! Tasted amazing and everyone stood in silence enjoying the scenery and food.

So sorry to hear the news Butch, it seems like it’s an everyday event someone telling you they have or know someone with Cancer, still doesn’t make it any easier to take the news.

I'll just play devil's advocate here :). I didn't see anything very challenging in all that hocus pocus of a climb. Even me, old and weak, could do that hand over hand while keeping any serious pressure off the chin and back of head (no pressure on the soft tissue parts of his neck at all to my eye). The fire...meh, nothing but showmanship, nothing done with the flames at all, just show them and toss them down. So there :D.

By Jer's own admission iirc, that tree went to hell on contact with mother earth. Not salvageable. But I'll defer to Jerry if he says differently today, of course.

There's the magic...some few of us need no time, care, nor constancy to find level. And unlike Stephen, I cannot place any ability to "see" level on work experience. I was born with it, and it has been both a gift and bane from my first awareness. Some years back, Stig in a pm to me posited that, given the relatively (to him, and agreed by me completely) low number of fells that my work has set before me, that I must have an unusual level of native talent...seeing as I seem to be able to accomplish advanced cuts without thousands of fells to earn the skills. Stig, if my memory differs from yours, please say so. In any event, I think being able to perceive level (simple), and to be able to visualize where the tip of 36, 42, or 60 inches of bar is and what it is doing deep inside a tree that well exceeds those dimensions (much harder), is a talent that cannot be easily learned. I'm sure it can be, but how??...Not so sure. It's a three dimensional puzzle at it's most simplistic description. It is, as I said before, a gift. I cannot say I am better at it than most because I worked for it...just supremely lucky to have been born with the magic insight.

I still don't get all this noise about how to level a saw bar. I am sorry. But forever in all aspects of my life, for me, my eye is a dead on laser accurate level. Does not matter the setting, be it 120 percent sidehill or in my living room. I am quite unsettled by a picture frame off level by a degree or two. When I check into a hotel room, I have to go to each lampshade that is off and correct it's position to level before I can begin to relax. I have had to reset a starting cut after backing away to check my initial setting from time to time, but seeing what is level from a step back has never been a problem. I cannot grasp lacking this ability.

So Frans...you're just going to lay down and let that thief steal your $120 and your Dewalt? When you know where he lives?? This, I do not understand.

My mate has been running the 500i Iíve been lent for the last few weeks and today he said heís really impressed with it. Not really heavier than a 60cc saw but with very quick acceleration and the ability to turn a longer bar he said heís probably going to buy one and heís a dyed in the wool Husky user. What have I done:cry::lol:

I voted neither but then I’m not on fb or Instagram to see how they work in practice on those mediums. Too old to worry if someone has liked it or not and if someone wants to comment in a negative I’m sure I could survive or respond if necessary.

Okie dokie, Justin...I hear you. To be clear, I NEVER said it was risk free, as you are pretending I did, but beyond that business... I don't buy into your arguments, much, but that's just my azz shat Jaguar drivin' 250 kpm top speed persona talking ;). Not that I'd do that jump :D. Smarter than that, me.
