Very interesting thread, Joel. I hope you continue to share your insights with us. Unfortunately, Paradise is only one of many cities in California that face the same fate. California is overpopulated and everyone wants to live in the woods to escape. The very high temperatures in the summer and extreme low humidity lead to drought conditions, and we always have those high winds in the fall. It's all a perfect scenario for fire. Kudos to the fire chief who is looking for answers from the real pros. No doubt he faces unsurmountable bureaucracy and red tape. I hope you got to see the Redwoods on your day off!

Cory, the town of Mendocino is wealthy in terms of the extra-high property values and exaggerated tourist industry, which is the only source of revenue for the town. Much like the little town of Carmel in central California. The county of Mendocino has never generated the amount of revenue that it actually could generate if pot growers had always been taxed. It's a fact with all northern California counties. Way too many pot growers...maybe the new laws will help the counties. Maybe. I have my doubts.

Thanks, Jim. Our house is one level and the rooms are small. Aside from the kitchen and living room we have 2 other detectors....bedroom and our computer room. And a CO detector in the living room. I feel better about it now. Thanks.

Jim, whats your advice for this annoying little issue we have........Every time I cook the kitchen alarm goes off. (It's not my cooking, really!) Every time we put a log on the fire the living room alarm goes off. The alarms are all placed so high that I'm not tall enough to reset them and the shrill noise hurts and runs me out of the house. I really do want the alarms in every room but can't deal with the constant sounding.

No, we have the movie on vhs though, but no way to play it anymore. I once bought Jerry a t-shirt that has the kids running down the hill scene, which I am in. I was 9 years old. They chose a half dozen local kids to be in the movie as part of the agreement of filming in Bodega Bay. I had to do a real screen test. I don't know why I was chosen out of 40 kids but I was. We ran down and walked back up that hill for 3 days straight, then spent 2 days filming in the old schoolhouse. Everyday we ate our meals with Hitchcock, Tippi Hedren, Suzanne Pleshett and Rod Taylor. They treated us well, especially Hitchcock, he liked kids. It was quite a thrill to be part of that movie. I was paid a total of $50 plus change for the whole thing. A lot of money for a kid back in 62. I still have my pay stubb from Universal Studios.

Good eye, Sam. We bought it from a local craftsman. In the pic you are looking at it at an angle. If you look at it straight-on it's like looking into a vortex. Did you also notice the 2 drink tokens from the Country Club in Klamath?

Yes, he has. When he was putting together the Working Climber video he would would do the editing at night when all was quiet and I was asleep. I could always hear the video while sleeping and I am convinced I picked up a lot of subliminal learning. Also, I learned to like the sound of a chainsaw first thing in the morning!

I think in this locale logging is a lifestyle, not just a job, and has been for 4-5 generations of families. Danny is just not ready to give that up. He'd be lost without it. But I just can't believe he went back to work on Monday!
