Well got my Norfolk Pine crane job done today...

Feet up 9am ( I left a saw at home and had to go ALL the way back across the harbour...made me half and hr late:X)
No WAY I would have been done today if I had to climb those suckers, sorry guys, the crane was the way to go for me!
First tree, some branches were a good 12-15' long, weight was all backward towards the road, house and wires.
Dangled over the wires to cut the tips off the long branches so they would clear when dropped. Stripped the tree to the top, down, branches cleared up to upper level with crane, back up, one pick, then down and cut from the bottom
First pick was 6,000lbs, final cut butt log was 3,000. whole first trunk was probably 12,000 min without branches. 31" across the stump. Crane loaded sections
Lunch
Second tree, top picked with branches intact, then down and cut bottom
Third tree sling at top, then cut at bottom.
Strip trunks, cut sections, load trucks, rake needles, pile branches.
Beer o'clock 3:30

Pics tomorrow, I have to reduce the file sizes they are all 1Mb or bigger!

So you took all three trees from that other thread? Can't wait to see the pics!

TCOB!
Looking forward to the pictures.
That Norfolk island pine is really good turning wood.
You turn it wet and soak it in oil, when the oil hardens up, it becomes translucent.
I'll see if I can find some pics on the net.

Here is one by Ron Kent, a Hawaiian turner:

That's funny. Norfolk pine is a house plant up here. I'm guessing it's not the same plant though probably? Gonna have to google I guess.

Yes Squisher...this is what happens when a house plant grows in its preferred environment!

All three trees went...

Wow, I've never seen Norfolk Island pines that big.
But then I've never seen them in their preferred element.
Must be nice to ride a crane like that, that is a no-no here.

Those pics certainly give a better perspective on the size of the trees. Nice job.

Yeah Stig...it's a BLAST! It really saved the wear and tear on me...I still have a grin on my face...

If you've got more pics, please post them.
Such an unusual tree to me, it's a pleasure to watch you take it apart.

Seeing the size of those branches, make me want to retract my earlier comment about how fast a good six-point limber could have them off:|:

Huge pines! They don't get very big here because we still get freezing temps almost every year. But down in south Florida they get big like that. Looks sticky!

Sure puts those trees in perspective... Bigger than what they looked in the first set of pics for sure!
Nicely done Fiona

You can title that picture 'Walking On Sunshine'. :D
