I bought some Amsteel for our chipper at the PT job.

I spliced it this afternoon, with the thimble.

I did a Locking Brummel with 1 fid untapered, and 1 fid tapered.

Should I do two untapered fids? Or am I good?

I'm no expert but my inclination is that you're fine. Locking Brummels normally don't require a real long tail anyway. I understand the concern though with the extra slippery Amsteel fibers. How about just lock stitching the throat?

I wouldn't have done a Brummel, it makes a weaker splice in that stuff. the standard long bury way is better, BUT if you use a Brummel, a short tapered bury isn't the end of the world.

Some say in a locked brummel, the lock IS the splice. I'd be inclined to go with an even SHORTER tail. You're fine with what you did fo sho.
