comice pear

One more question. We have two pear trees, a shinseki and a comice. The asian was healthy and the fruit was really sweet. It's about 12' away from the comice, which looks like this:

Rust? I'll get out the WD40!

No, do you remember what your uncle did to battle it? We have it on our roses, too.
 
I know that he dusted them with sulphur in the spring at least three or four times. He also sprayed them with a ;fungicide at least twice, and a dormant spray of oil and copper. I'll ask him, he's 85 now and probably doesn't remember, but maybe.

Geez, I guess you really gotta like pears! Maybe I try all that for a year and see if I get tired of it.
 
Most fruits are pretty high maintenance trees. It's probably too cold up there but citrus makes a lot better yard tree around here.

I agree with Steve, most people have no idea whats involved in keeping good fruit. You could try bagging your apples but I bet in Portland you need to rebag often
