Not to spoil Butch's thread, I find that I am often moved by music with no words. I find the 'songs I'm listening to' thread too general, people just post tunes with no explanation as to why they are currently enjoying them. I like Butch's idea of HAVING to give a few words of explanation as to why the tune is special or postworthy.
Just lately I downloaded a few albums from Robin Guthrie, guitarist and co creator of the Cocteau twins. I find the music talks to something in my soul. His layers upon layers of distorted and reverb guitar work create an emotional response in me that goes far deeper than guitar music should.

Here's a few examples from the album 'continental'...

I know many will consider this blasphemy but I think it sounds too much like Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, which I simply cannot listen to any more. I listened to it for years thinking it was supposed to be good and I was supposed to like it but one day I finally accepted the fact that it just drives me batty. It affects my psyche but in a very negative way. I know many people like it but it's not for me. I get very edgy and extremely agitated if I have to listen to it for extended periods.

On the other hand I like the idea for the thread and I will repost a few songs from Ulrich Schnauss. Ed introduced me to this man's music about a year ago and I truly enjoy it. Total chill, it relaxes me and allows all the stressful thoughts to drift away. Here's a couple of my favorites.

instrumentals????

I much prefer piece of music. 'Instrumental' sounds like a dodgy track from a 70's rock album:what:

I grew up with Louis Armstrong's music. My father was ( is) a big fan of traditional jazz.
This is one of my 3 favourite jazz recordings along with Jelly Roll Morton's: " Dr. Jazz" and Sidney Bechet's version of " Summertime".<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NmmFKu4FEbc?fs=1&hl=da_DK"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NmmFKu4FEbc?fs=1&hl=da_DK" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Booker T and the MG's... "Green Onions"

Not sure if they are the original artist... but it caught my ear when I was young from the movie American Graffiti. :)

<object width="500" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_bpS-cOBK6Q?fs=1&hl=en_US&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e9e00&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_bpS-cOBK6Q?fs=1&hl=en_US&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e9e00&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="405"></embed></object>

Here is a clip from the movie (with that song) that is my favorite part of the entire flick. When the cars are pulling up in the dark before the drag race and the haunting riff starts... has always stuck with me.

Booker-T and the MG's is definitely some of the best stuff ever created.

One of my all-time favorites:

The fellow in the bottom right is their teacher, Perf. He's from a forum I used to frequent. Nothing fancy, pretty cool!

Most of the music I listen to these days is without vocals. I could blast this thread with a couple dozen posts but I'll try to restrain myself.

Paul Hardcastle is one of my favorite musicians. Here's a small sample, although it would take days to hear all of his music.

Here is one of my favorites from years ago.

So many places to start. When I was in Mexico some years ago I sought out this type of thing. Once resulting in me walking into the wrong bar. When I say `wrong' I mean wild west bandit wrong. Some tequila later it was the right bar once I told them I was infact English.

This is one of my favourites.
Goto Midori a 14 years old violinplayer breaks the E-string on her child size violin in the middle of a concert directed by Leonard Bernstein.
She gets another violin from the concert master and plays on without missing a beat.
Murphy's law sets in and the E-string of that violin breaks, too ( what are the chance of that happening?), she takes another violin from the second concert master and plays to the end, still not missing a beat!!!!!!!!!

Leonard knelt before her in awe!<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Rkp8YSuePPM?fs=1&hl=da_DK"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Rkp8YSuePPM?fs=1&hl=da_DK" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Great choices Stig

Vaughn Williams is one of my favourite composers, and I particularly like his interpretation of Thomas Tallis' Fantasia.
