I have an 044 that is acting like it can't get enough fuel. It'll start and run (fast idle) on the prime setting, and will idle on the run setting. When I try to cut with it, it bogs and dies, but starts right back up (going lean instead of fouling out).

I'm guessing it's a bad diaphram?

Does that saw have a decomp button? If the decomp is broken and stuck open then it will run poorly like that, but you will hear it leaking.

When I slid the carb off and unplugged the fuel line, gas shot all over my crotch. A dead giveaway where the obstruction was. It was the screen in the carb, the orfice was topped off with chit that was super fine (powered sugar, maybe a touch courser) detris. Thanks for the pointer, Dave.

I THINK this is one of the first saws I bought, 11 years ago next month.

Yes as a matter of fact there is a fine screen in the carb .Don't ask how it happens but little tiny wood fibers can get through the filter and lodge in that screen .
