An old Mercury/Disston 2 man saw... check out the 1/2" scratcher chain on it...

Cool find Higgins!

Missin a few pieces... but it looks like a twin cylinder model also. :)

Well Magnum P.I. sleuths it out! And here I thought they just made boat motors!

Many of the old fallers I knew that worked during the transition to chainsaws told me they wouldn't give up the axe and crosscuts because they were just lighter and easier to pack in the woods. Eventually they changed over.

Very few of those guys left that run them saws for living.

Larry Stiener has one of those things . We took turns running it at a GTG once .That thing sounded like a boat motor . I think it had like a 9/16 or 3/4 inch chain on it . Whatever it was it tossed some big old chips .

There was one on ebay here a few weeks ago, went for about $1100 I think. Can't find it, I thought I kept it.

I can see why they stuck with crosscuts & axes.

recon if you had to carry that saw 10 miles through the pacific north west forest you might be inclined to just stick to the cross cut.

Here's the one that resides in my saw shed.

That saw would be way hard to use bucking wood huh.
Is it only meant to cut knotches and back cuts ?

That is very cool!

That CAN'T be an American quarter...can it?????:O

Yup, that's what it is, Gary...this thing runs BIG chain :).

Jerry, the bar can be turned to run horizontal or vertical. See the pic showing the bar/powerhead union...it can turn there.
