So I guess being a certified arborist and/or learning about trees and tree health is an unnecessary and burdensome waste of time if you're going to inventory trees and assess tree health for a living? :what:

I wondered about that too, but some scholarship programs are like that.
No experience preferred..... somebody somewhere must have some logic about it.

It's not aimed at TreeMen of your caliber.

Though for what it is, it's great to see.

Americorps can be a good thing for the recent college grad, lost in space.

I read it like they want a wet behind the ears young innocent guy they can work like a rented mule and then discard when done

But mebbe I'm cynical.

I think you guys are reading this one all wrong. Americorps is a whole programs that teaches about simple living while learning skills. Karina did it for a year and DID make a living off of something about a third of what the poverty line is.

Not only that, in the biz/job market, the word "Americorps" has a LOT of weight when it comes to resumes and interviews. Interviewers and hirerers know that Americorps has TONS of applicants (hundreds per position) and who ever gets selected is considered cream of the crop.

Consider this program a solid investment in your future.

Not only that, but studies have solidly shown that people entering the workforce in time of recession have notably lower incomes for many years after the recession, when compared to people who enter the workforce during strong economic times.

Maybe not for you...but that's doesn't mean it's a rip-off.

love
nick
