Heli Loggers...

Maybe this has been listed, but I ain't seen it in the Unread Posts and I did a search, but nothing...but I've been travelling and not checking in daily so I may have just missed it posted.

But I'm sitting in my hotel in Reno, and this is on-

So far, so good. No skidding, so far just big timber, saws, some climbing and a 200T. Looks cool.

I watched that last night. The Boss's name was Gord. I was wondering if it was the Gord on this site. It just seemed like a coincidence that there are two people from B.C. that take down some very large trees named Gord.

Very cool show by the way.
 
Everybody in Canada is named Gord.:D

I didn't see all of the show, but what I saw was interesting and not over dramatized. They also seem to make a real effort to work as safely as possible without killing production too badly.

15K an hour for that shithook! :OThose must be some valuable cedar logs.

I liked it. I thought AxMen was OK, but not nearly enough actual running of saws. This show was all saws, flip lines, crashing timber and aviation. And big friggin timber. It was big enough to jack that one tree over. Seems like mostly they're running Huskys though....I saw on 660 and a couple of 200T's.

Bleagh, heck no. I'm only staying in a casino because they're the "nicest" hotels in town. I haven't spent the first dime on the casino floor.

Yeah, I've got the STP catalog for years and years now. Got some good stuff there. But I hit my limit at Sheel's and Cabela's.

Are y'all not watching this? This show makes AxMen look more like crap than it originally did. It's all high climbing, and big timber. Dude broke out the 088 tonight! I don't think I've seen a tree less than 36" dbh; most are 40"+

There's alot of cool climbing too. Flipline up 130' and tree-to-tree traverses.

It is a good show. Only one crew, and no yarding, no fixing skidders, no BS. All saws and climbing.

I'm still impressed with the teqhnique they're using where they snap the spar off the stump. I've seen heli logging in WA, but that was more heli-yarding.
 
i heard it was standing stem logging. my friend is a big wig at erickson skycrane and let me see a video they made a few years ago. pretty cool stuff. whole tree snapcuts! 8)

Yea the"jigging" is cool never seen that before.
 
That was pretty wild!! I can't believe the stems didn't blow from the rotor wash alone!
I wonder how many 200's they go through in a year? Man they are hard on them and cutting some BIG wood with them suckers!

I saw that too, but I think it was an editing screw up. It showed him starting the cut with one, and then it showed the top going over.....a 30" top! I guess it's doable, but there's footage elsewhere of them topping with proper timber saws, with 24-28" bars.

But then it may be the case because I can't imgine hauling a 372 (they mostly use Huskys) up 120'. And then the tree-to-tree traversing would cause issues with the haul line.

Either way, those guys ain't messin around.
 
I thought of changing the saws out as well,but they never caried anything in but the 200's, and there was an awful lot of footage of the tops going while the 200 was making chips!
I also noticed the only time they used the ropes was swinging to another tree. Is that normal? Cutting with just one TIP, the lanyard, on gaffs?
