I probably had to many xmas cookies and beer when I thought this one up....but. The Blue ridge parkway has some closures due to construction. So I hatched a plan to hike/bushwhack up this ridge about an hour to the closed section, then ride the next five miles down to a car we left....I know dumb way to learn, but hell it was fun. A bit windy and the occassional cement truck kept us on our toes. I think I will do it again. Ross, one of my employees has ridin alot so he was psyched to try it to.......
Yes this was my first time riding a long board, so I had to stay low in fear of eating asphalt.

the approach up to Lane Pinnacle....a few shots of the ridge we hiked up. You can see the raod cut if you look close. Drops an average of 200' per mile

dragged my homemade slide gloves into submission!:O

Man that looks like so much fun. I had no idea longboards rode that well.

Just like snowboarding.

Good deal on the sliders, what was your material?

Awesome, Cept ya'll need to be going about 4-5 times faster.

Rad! John, First time longboarding or even skateboarding, You're pretty smooth.

Nice! ...and you're supposed to be ridin' low like that. I'd a friggin' dive bombed that stuff man! See how fast you can get goin, then carve!

Glad you had fun! So, that was on the other side of Mt. Mitchell from here? I need to try and get up there sometime. ...maybe not the same spot, but I another closed part.

I'd think even with cars, would be cool.
Probably try and avoid the other lane.

John, That's pretty freakin cool.
Beautiful out there.

Yes, I bet your feet were hummed to sleep.

It was a bit steeper then it looks......I could not stand very well unless the grade was less. In sections the pavement sucked and there was derbris in sections. I was a bit wigged about the cement trucks since I was a noob. I will do it again though.....maybe on sunday when there will be NO traffic. I changed to shoes instead of boots, which made a huge difference.

I got a little faster......but I was in survival mode since it was my first time.

Andrew, this was from the edge of the watershed down to bull creek gap, heading towards the Folk Art Center. Total elevation loss was around 15oo' in five miles.Wanna go?

My redneck slide gloves had cutting board pieces screwed to them...

learning to kill speed was crucial......total slide out were the way to go....a bit of a learning curve there:|:

then I watch this....and yes I'm a pussy!!!!

Yeah, that dude was goin pretty fast. The foot drag isn't hard, you just have to get used to riding while balancing on one foot. :D

Those big turns are the hard part cause your rear wheels melt a little when you hit those turns going really fast. Getting really low and forward on the board helps keep ya from fishtailing and slamming. I remember trying to take a turn back in maryland going way too fast. I didn't make it and hit the curb on the outside of the turn, did a front flip and a half into this lady's yard and landed in her bush. If I had got real low and leaned in more I would have made it, which I learned later.

hell...i dodged a lotta rocks, but i was surprised what those bigs wheels would roll over. Acrons, sticks and some really rough pavement in places

I still got my racing leathers and a helmet... maybe I could stick some wheels on a catalpa slab I got drying and and and..

That looks to frikin cool. Another one of those things I dont have time to get good at:lol:

Cool stuff. I'll put that down on my list of things not to do. For every pussy in this world, somewhere there is a much bigger one. In this case he's in Idaho.
