Bailey's Univent (Husky 372xpw)

I got my saw today and was disappointed that there was no half wrap handle as indicated in the ad, but a quick phone call and they are sending it to me. So I put the full wrap on it in the meantime.

I was under the impression that some minor port work had been done on these saws since they are claiming it's a 'hot rod'. I pulled the muffler off to take a look and it doesn't look like anything has been done. It looks completely stock, the base gasket is still intact as well. I was going to work on the muffler but decided to hold off for now. I put it back together and stuck it back in the box.

From the pics, it sure looks polished to me? I don't see any flashing or rough edges from the casting Brian, but maybe that's just me?
 
I wouldn't expect the sales term, "higher performance", on a new saw, to equate to much in the way of port work....maybe a little polishing, and for sure, not the elimination of the base gasket.

The stock compression might be higher due to less squish, possibly the piston is a bit lighter and with larger windows for better fuel movement, the carb might allow more fuel to enter the cylinder, and possibly the crankcase arrangement is a bit different for better fuel passage. What else.....?

The only way to really tell if it has higher performance, is to time it in the cut, compared to the Husky 372 in the same diameter wood. If it doesn't cut faster, then you can claim false advertising.
 
Rocky here is what I have read on them. Now I dont have a clue if the Baileys ones comes with this stuff, but the other univent saws sold elsewhere do.

Ventilation Saw Features
ET Series Engine (Extreme Torque)

Kind of a high rating for the size .

Mr. Al Smith Sir ;) No disrespect or arguing with you there Ole wise one8), but I think the stock Dolmar 7900 79cc is 6.4. So who knows. Could be fudged a little. But dont the stock 70.7cc Husky go 5.4-5.6 or something.
 
HP rating can be misleading .Look up for example a stock Sachs-Dolmar 166 .

Now then Husqvarna 390 at 87.9 cc 6.5 HP .Stihl 650 at 84.9 cc -6.4 HP .Stihl 460 at 76.5 cc -6 HP .

I dunno some makers seem to like to enhance the power ratings at times or so it seems . I guess the proof is in the pudding so to speak .Lay it to the wood and see how it does .
 
Sounds like the saws have a different jug.......and carb....?

Gains could be the claimed 20%...and would be more if the muffler is modded....I'm assuming its stock based on your comment, Brian.

Greg had told me that the saws were woods ported......call him, see what he says......

Much of what they're saying about the saw is the same as the stock 372/372 XPW.....
 
It doesn't look very woods ported, based on the exhaust opening. A measurement across the exhaust hole, and figuring what percentage of the bore size it is? That should indicate if the jug has been ported, unless they just worked on the transfers and intake, which seems kind of unlikely.

I can't see how they could do hand porting on an item for mass sales, and still make much profit......too many variables as well. The better performance specs would have to be cast or machined into the new cylinder, which seems problematical. Pure speculation here, though.

Skwerl, do you have a compression gauge to give it a check? Curious to see if they have upped the compression..
 
That exhaust does look polished and belled quite a big .

In looking at the bolt holes it also looks like there is plenty of meat to carve out if a person were in mind of doing such a thing .

So is that thing really a Husqvarna or just a clone ?
 
Yeah, it's a Husky 372, and I am sure it's polished, not sure how ported, but polished.
It might be one of those things they don't go crazy because they have to warentee them?
