Well, it kinda reminds me of spruce with the dark sappy looking rings. I had a couple spruce trees in my yard and after cutting them up I found occasional solid channels of sap as big around as a pencil. The bark had tons of sap caked on too which made it good for starting fires.

Used to go skiing up there as a kid. San Bernadino Mountains. Been behind those near Palmdale and had it snow on us rabbit hunting one year. So like Mt Baldy, Big Bear, Arrowhead, Wrightwood. Snow is pretty much a thing. Little unusual for May though.

My uncle called last night and invited me to go fishing for a few hours today. Hit the water at 6 am and done by 9:30. He caught two nice large mouth bass and I had nothing. He apologized for the fish not biting. I said not to worry, first bit of real relaxation I’ve had in a long time. Haven’t really done anything else all day. Wife and kids are out at a birthday party for my cousins boy. I’ve been mowing the lawn for the past four hours. I stop when I get thirsty. Almost done and almost out of beer

Some call the more upright ones reiterations. I use words branches, stubs, protrusions. Since I'm not a climbing arborist, I took advantage of the rigging the team put in another redwood cluster to catch the view from 200 feet. It was raining, and for me that was best. I didn't get a fear of heights, but it was unusual. More the going up and down. Once I was on limbs, it felt more at home. There were two sizes of drops with rain and drip line water falling. And the variations in textures and colors were enjoyable to see from that vantage.

Cedar (Cedrus deodar) isn’t sappy at all. Great trees to work on imo. Branches snap off flat and predictably, chips nice. Nice hinge Sean btw.

Do you refer to the protrusions on the trunk as trees or branches? You could log the branches off that! A vertical timber forest...efficient

A beast of a tree. Mine is small by comparison. I will have to check whether or not I can see the Olympic Mountains from up there, the highest point of my property. I just killed a little deodora cedar, with some help from Stihl, Boxer, BMG, and gravity. I could feel a little irregularity in spots of the lawn under foot. One very minor dent. Nbd. Well within parameters. 8 grapple piles, mostly machine forwarded and fed, making about 4-5 yards of chips, along with another maple I wrecked, in back. 5 yard from another maple another day, in the back. One load to my neighbor, first for his cows, then into his garden. Second load for my other neighbor, for his hard cider apple orchard trees. It seems I might be becoming a hard cider apple orchardist, as well! I have a chunk of space that I've considered for solar panels, but I like this idea more.

500i 79.2 cc vs 395xp 94cc ..... 395xp for the win especially with longer 25” + bars ... I don’t care WHO is doing the port-work , 14.8cc is FAR to much displacement to overcome all things being equal! Even a 390xp at 88cc would be out of the 500i league imho ... I’m a STIHL guy by the way lol

There are three to four other specimen cedars like that on the property, it was a factor in the decision to take this one out.

This redwood may give a head start on that project. The man on the right is the NBC videographer. I think the climber on the left stopped to show him the "BAT CAVE" where bats flew out the previous day when a French broadcaster interviewed. So there is at least one room started
