Just curious. I have only heard a tone of admiration and possibly a little envy in most of these posts. Not just for the machines but for the people that are, leading the way. Mankind has no set path, just the one it chooses.

I never said it looks good, I simply stated this is currently the cutting edge of tree removal, afaik. And the engineering and capability is amazing. Down the line, I suppose that machines will continue to reduce the need for manpower in tree work. It's the way of the human brain. Lots of people doing nothing is apparently fully expected by many folks examining the future.

I use the file with both hands to sharpen... also use the file to scrape clean the little angle line you're supposed to follow... helps me keep count of which tooth i started on too, when i don't have a sharpie in the field... Those first pics of the saw chain were pretty funny. sorry.

Got ourselves and a few nieghbors dug out today. Also dropped the girls off at my parents for a sleepover. Roads still aren’t to pleasant but passable. Only six inches of snow but with the population in the area it might as well have been two feet. People get really stupid when we get over a couple of inches. Single digit temps now with a windchill of -10. I’ll be out before sunrise recleaning the drive and splitting firewood since they already cancelled work for tomorrow. Fine by me. I was supposed to be climbing and topping trees at an airport because they are messing with accurate wind readings.

So this all looks good to you, Cory? What happens when you take this a couple steps further? Bigger, faster machines with even more reach and potential. One step more, all industry goes the same way. Sure will make work easy. So easy in fact that the only jobs left will be for people that know about fixing machines. I like what I do now. Doing things in an easier way only works up to a point. After that, lots more people doing nothing.

Sorry to hear about your friend, Stig. I hope for many more happy times for the both of you. Get busy living, as they say. Eleven hours and 45 minutes to go :) Minus 25F with windchill. Too cold for the road salt to melt anything. Driving to work was a friggin adventure.

It was leaking out the bottom. Didn't explore it overly, just pulled it out and fired it up and saw water pouring out. It was pretty vintage I think. It's out on the porch now and the new one is in and running. I'll cut back the drywall probably tomorrow and find the extent of it. Get a fellow in to patch in some new stuff(my drywalling never turns out), paint it up and Bob's your uncle. Disaster averted.
