Mark up of a couple of bucks on string? Times must be tough! Anyway, I’m not looking to have a go at anyone, but as I get older I relate to this more and more, business is not just about money

Stuff is cheaper on the Internet shocker! On the other hand when all the shops are shut because everything is bought cheaper off the internet, you can just shut the job down for 24 hours till the parcel arrives.

    Employment and Training Woes

Yeah, but at whose expense? It takes a couple of years minimum to take a complete novice to something approaching a commercial climber, that’s a considerable investment in time and money, especially if that person leaves for whatever reason soon afterwards, believe me I know. Large firms with...

I wouldn’t worry about bachelor degrees if you want to be a climber. Get a job with the utility people (or someone) and get some saw time.

    Employment and Training Woes

My course in 95 cost me £1000 ish (out of my own pocket) 10 weeks, climbing, rigging, ident, chainsaw use and maintenance, diseases, general theory. Was I any good when I left? Not really (at all in fact) but it gave me the basic skills to learn the job over the next few years, and made me a...

    Employment and Training Woes

I’m curious, are there any professional training courses for climbers in the US? In the UK there are plenty of ‘college’ options to learn to climb, you pays your money and you takes your choice.

I’ve seen it, interesting concept, sort of stolen from a sitcom called ‘Goodnight Sweethearts It sort of runs out of steam and ideas in the end. Be interested to know what you think.

    New pull start handles

When I started in this gig in 95 I worked for a bit of a ragtag company, saws in those days were a bit less reliable (or so it seemed to me) I remember a climber throwing a non-starting 020t out of the tree onto the ground where it broke apart a bit, rendering it useless. I could not understand...

    New pull start handles

Good to hear the handles work. As for starting, 3 or so attempts in the traditional ’one hand on the handle, one hand on the pull starter’ Then I’ll drop start the bastard.
