That's it. The nurse gives you a Fleet squeeze bottle enema thingy, and if she likes what shes sees in the toilet then it's off to see the wizard! I don't remember nothing after the guy shot the sleepy juice in my line.

For the last few years I've been electing to postphone my anal adventures. Though everytime I go to the Doc, he or she wants to poke their finger up my butt.
What's with that anyway?
MasterBlaster
01-10-2008, 07:34 PM
They didn't show me anything. The Doc is supposed to talk to me later, supposedly.
What's with that anyway?
That's a simple prostate exam. The prostate is supposed to feel like a smooth walnut. He palpates (feels) it for abnormalities/whatnot. It shouldn't take more that 10 seconds or so.

Not unlike you, I've always wondered and dreaded the day it would happen. But, now that it's over, I'm so glad I had it done. The feeling of relief is awesome. It doesn't have it done again until 2013.
At least (for the time being) colon cancer ain't messing with THIS old boy!

Good observation....very true. I think for some it starts (for some) first when they have babies/kids. Poop and 'parts' become just part of our everyday language.
Glad to hear it all worked out for you, Butch! Such fun, eh? :/:

I think screening when it's not URGENT is the way to go....if for nothing else than to get a baseline for later in life, you at least know what's normal for you and what is not.
For the ladies only, here in Kentucky (at U of K) there is an Ovarian screening clinic for women over 50 or younger if there is a family history of Ovarian cancer. One of very few in the country. Like colon cancer, ovarian is one of those nasties with symptoms that often don't appear until it's pretty well advanced.

I have two observations on this matter.
1) They can shove something 5 feet up my ass after I'm dead, not a minute sooner.
2) Within a few years the technology will exist where I can swallow a remote camera in capsule form and it can take pictures on the way through (from the top down, not from the bottom up). When that technology is developed, I'll get the exam.

when I turned 35 last summer I went to my doc for a general apptointment, I brought up the question of ' do I need to get checked in that region?" and he asked me a bunch of family history questions and said no, at this point you are not in the medium to high risk so no test is needed. He did however ask me if I had ever been checked for testicular cancer..... not sure if that trumps colonoscopy but its hard to retain any decorum in that test I tell ya what.

01-11-2008, 02:51 AM
Mrs Smith, the one I'm married to gets this examination about every three or so years. They have found a few polups[sp] and she is prone to intestinal problems. In other words her bowls get in an uproar from time to time.
As far as the prostate thing, 'taint pleasant but not a bad idea because the alternative sucks if you have problems and don't catch them in time. You get older it seems you have to endure some rather humbling things.:(
Glad to hear you plumbing is in good shape Butch. That damned pizza will get ya on it's way out,I'll bet.:O

No shit? A coffee enema? Lordy, what's that (the coffee part) supposed to do?WEll, for one thing, it is very stimulating.:D
It also dissolves sticky stuff in there. The key is to take in as much as possible and hold it in while massaging the area.
Your body is a vehicle; it is not you, so the whole dignity thing is a delusion.
A monthly colon flush is like a radiator flush or an oil change. Vehicle maintenance results in longer use, right? I don't want my last words to be "Doh! I shoulda had a checkup!":(

01-11-2008, 07:38 AM
Just remember the "finger" is akin to the doc telling you to open your mouth and say "Ahhh." It's just a prostate once-over, NOT a colonoscopy. But you knew that!

01-11-2008, 07:44 AM

HA! hardly, I went in and asked if it was time to do a once over physical or something and we talked a lot of family history type questions, no red flags so no big deal. Keep in mind that I only saw my doctor between the age of about 3 to then in the emerg room for casts, burns, cuts etc :D

I think that is even more embarrassing GB. When I was 21 I got a hemorrhoid removed at the doctor's office. The nurse that came in and prepped me was a rather hot mom who had a couple of daughters a little younger than me. It was probably amusing to her but to lay there and be told "lay on your side, grab your cheek and spread 'em, a little more, that's good" well let's just say that my face was as red as it could get.
dont worry she couldnt see your face

Man, a good friend of mine stopped by yesterday. Before I could bragg to him about my clean colon, he told me his 45 year old wife had colon cancer. They said if she woulda had a colonoscopy when she was 40 they woulda found it and probably cured it. NOW her cancer is looking terminal and it's a sad situation indeed.
Man, don't ANY of you be afraid to have this done. My buddy told me his wife was scared and kept putting it off and never doing it and now she's in trouble.

Sad. It is such a cureable cancer, maybe there is hope. Did she feel bad or just decide to have the procedure done?
She felt a lump and that was the beginning of it. When they looked they saw a buncha bad stuff.
:(
Where was the lump?
I dunno, down in her gut somewhere I imagine. It was in her colon.
