This thread is about all things related to the "ER" television series. I will delete anything not related to the topic. And I don't expect this thread to evolve much, but who knows.
Anyway, I love the show. The closet anatomist/doctor in me enjoys the hell out of it. I've followed it from the beginning, as well as most all of the horsepistol series, St. Elsewhere, China Beach, Chicago Hope. They cover so many topics it's amazing.
Tonight is a new show!

I wouldnt be surprised if that show doesnt go off soon.

That is SO funny!! I just got the first season on DVD to watch while I log a year's worth of farm receipts into the computer. I told my husband to rest up, I remember Thursday nights after ER used to be fun in this house, too. George Clooney was MY 'Abby'. 8)

You shouldn't have done that. ER has gone through a 1/2 dozen nearly complete main character stages and that is what I like best about it. You have a chance to learn their characters and like/dislike them, but who knows how long they'll be around.
You never ever knew Romano, or saw his arm chopped off, or the flaming helocoptor landing on him. And that was just one 'lil episode. You've missed a lot of good stuff.

I got pissed off at the show when they killed off Mark. He was a cool dood, and the episode where he died was pretty awesome/sad as hell. I remember that song, Somewhere over the rainbow but a rendition like I never heard before. Sad.

Heart of stone. I bet Paul will cry.
(Night guys!)
Paul B
11-14-2008, 02:23 AM
ha, no I didnt cry Che. I have always had an issue where tv shows drag the heart strings out and show kids in distress/dying. I couldnt imagine how a parent could go on after losing a kid like that. I have left the room and/or turned off the tv when shows get too off colour with kids suffering etc, no need for it IMHO.
To be honest, I have a client that called me a few months ago, trying to get info on starting horse chestnut seeds, their daughter was killed last year and she had this favorite tree thing... I couldn't bring myself to read the email link he sent me about the situation behind her passing. I have seen two reports on the tv news in the last month about that family's battle against the drunk driving rules in our province. Their 4 year old daughter was feeding a horse a handful of grass and a drunk went off the road and plowed in to her and her aunt, killing her and putting her aunt in the hospital for a long time. :(
Before I knew the story I had spent an hour meeting them at the tree they talked about, drove near 45 mins each way to get there, a couple hours internet researching and emailing nursery experts. I ended up telling them to nevermind a bill, how the hell could I charge them for something like this? I will be in touch with them over time to check in on the seedlings etc, its worth it. :)
Wow, Paul. That must have been pretty intense....sounds like you did the right thing (at least IMHO) and probably felt 'honored' to be able to.
OK, so it wasn't a 'tear jerker'......I was wrong. But they have only ONE season to round out this new character so I guess they have to move quickly.
I hope they get Carol and Doug back together for a show.....and Luka.

The final seconds showed some sorta clinical setting and people were sitting in big comfortable chairs with an IV in them. As the camera panned down the individual people it came to rest on Carter. Cancer? AIDS? Some weird disease he brought back from Africa? Stay tuned...

What makes you think that? Have you read/seen something?
Just the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the scene. I think (I am not a medical professional and am guessing) that chemo is administered from IV bags and people are treated with "AIDS cocktails" orally and with IV drugs. The machine in question appeared to be doing something more than just administering one or more drugs.

Google is our friend:
As a result of [Carter’s] once near-fatal stabbing, which led to my subsequent drug addiction, I come back from Africa requiring additional medical treatment for my one remaining kidney. I’m embarrassed to get treatment at County General, so I go up to Northwestern to get my dialysis up there, and that’s where Dr. Benton spies my name on a patient list and comes to pay me a visit," Wyle told TV Guide.

So - how did they manage to get so many from the old show (especially superstar George Clooney) to guest this final season?

Actually, I was thinking more about the scheduling difficulties, but I'm sure you're right.

Well, the ending was kinda cool but overall I was a tad underwhelmed. It was neat how they used the original soundtrack.

hm. we just watched the tape of the three hour show. was nice to see the snippets of the old timers etc, we had a few of the ' hey I remember when..." moments and a few "what happened to ....?" as well. The last episode was somewhat anticlimactic yet it held our attention.
Like Third Watch, I am frustrated that they ended the series when I still looked forward to it each week.
I (we) still cant believe it was on for 15 years! dang, the time flies, I remember watching the first season with a friend of mine on a regular basis, hard to imagine that it began a long time ago, unless you look at some of the veteran actors and compare their now and then pics, like Carter for instance. :)
well, on to the next fad, I wonder what it will be. I will really miss ER, I had grown so used to watching it every Thursday evening, so many actors have passed through as well, cameos or full on characters, I think that was one of the strong points of the show.

I was feeling the same way, but Noah Wyle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Carter_(ER)) explained it on the Today Show. He said the writers had covered every storyline possible and they wanted to go out while they were still on top, and I can understand that. He said it was better to go out this way instead of dragging it on and on until the ratings dropped. I gotta admit I was getting sick of some stuff, especially Dr. Benton always saying "Come on, people!!! MOVE!!!" I'd love to know how many times he said that during his run, ha!

I was amused by the dichotomy (at the very end) between the show 'dying' (going off the air) and the ambulances full of people needing help pulling into the ER bay (as if the show were going to keep on going). The inference being that 'the show' (life) WOULD go on (just not on our TV's) whether there was someone to watch, or not.

Here's (http://www.nbc.com/southland/?__source=ggl|southland|Brand|G_Southland_Brand&sky=ggl|southland|Brand|G_Southland_Brand) the replacement. I'll give it a shot, but cop shows are growing old. :drink:
