I'm so excited for sled season to start! I did my preseason maintenance on my sled today so the only thing keeping me from riding is about 2 more storms in the high country. We're supposed to get some snow in the mountains on Sunday and if it dumps up there I'm blowing off work Monday to go play.:D

I know there's got to be at least a few sled-heads around here praying to the snow Gods!

Here's mine..

I need to swap the ACT fluid in my '07 X-Fire, and it will be good to go. But I probably have a while till the snow gets deep enough... its WARM lately. No pack in the high country yet.

Everytime I want to throw a 2" paddle track on it, we get crap snow, so I think I'll keep the 1.25" Ripsaw on it for now... Ideally I'd like a 1.5" paddle track, but its hard for me to go a half inch short when Im dropping $600 for a new camoplast.

I guess snow isn't something you guys down south have to ever deal with. Too bad cause playing in the snow kicks ass and the scenery can be more incredible than words can describe!!

Of course there is a down side to back country sledding and that is no matter what... you will bury your sled and have to dig yourself out and it can SUCK!!

Here's a couple pics of my ridding buddy digging.... and digging... and digging.

Way cool video's.

I don't do that much hillclimb, its not that gnarly were I ride... its fairly technical hill climbs that you hit after you weave through trees that don't last long. Makes me think a 2" Challanger track 136" would rock on my Xfire.

Man... Im pumped to go ride again...

Sleds rise and fall in popularity here.We have several snowy winters followed by not so snowy. The sled crowds have to go to the U.P. of Mich.to find enough good snow. The four wheelers have pretty much taken their place.

The older ones sell relatively cheap.Of course they are or may be like old saws that haven't been started in 15 years. What I know about snowmobiles would fit in a thimble with room to spare.

You guys are missing out on a lot of fun. Snow sports are awesome... if you have the proper equipment.

If you aren't in appropriate attire it's going to SUCK!!!!!

I ski, snowmobile, snowshoe, and ice fish having a blast all winter long. I don't know what I'd do if I wasn't able to frolic in the snow for 3-4 months a year.

On our way back from skiing today my bro and I decided we were going to find somewhere on top of Cameron Pass to stop and make a kicker (ski jump) to play on for a while. Fortunately we came upon a group of 4 guys that had one almost built so we helped finish it up and the fun began.:D

Flying off of a big jump into really deep powder is a blast! It's the perfect place to learn new tricks and not get hurt. It was deep enough today that I could've landed on my head and not get injured, a little bit of snow down the back of my ski jacket, but no injury.

Today was a fun day of playing in the high country.:D

I'd have to say Im definately a new guy to the modding of sleds...

If I'm running a 141" track, will more power make it run better in the steep and deep or am I just wasting money until I get a long track?

Or more power, more snow thrown out the back of the sled, the better it goes, anytime anywhere?

I spent a little time on a '03 900 with a 144" track, and I'm not so sure the extra power was put to good use... but that could have well been a chassis/sled issue vs. the M series.

The Branch Doctor
01-02-2008, 11:47 PM
From what I understand the longer the track the better in the steep and deep.

sotc
01-03-2008, 12:17 AM
and the more power it takes to turn it. i love a 151" and a 700-800. plenty of power, plenty of track and still very manueverable.
your always throwing snow when your full throttle, if you went up hill as fast as your track was turning (no slip) you couldnt hang on!

IchWarriorMkII
01-03-2008, 09:16 AM
Thats part of the reason I keep to the short tracks, because Im not a big guy at all, getting one to move for me is much easier with a shorter track...

... and its less junk to pick out of the hole when you get stuck.

sotc
01-03-2008, 10:19 AM
yeah big tracks are nice but when their stuck it a huge job to get them out! my old deere gets stuck, somebody grabs a ski loop and pulls while you give it throttle and away we go again

squisher
01-03-2008, 11:57 AM
I find it funny that a 141" is now a shorter track. From my experience sledding more power is always better. Technique is everything, I've got a buddy who makes it look so easy on his big (now kind of old) RMK800. He probably weighs 170 dripping wet and he throws that sled around like it's a tinker toy, pretty amazing to watch. Rather than using muscle to steer the sled he's just holding on and using his body weight/balance to carve it up.

The Branch Doctor
01-03-2008, 12:55 PM
That's how I ride Squishy. I'm about the same size as your buddy too.... but I wish I had a few more pounds to throw around.

The Branch Doctor
01-11-2008, 02:48 PM
Neither. Mines in the shop.:(

I made the mistake of letting a moron ride my sled and he somehow managed to catch it on fire.:X It's a long story. I'll spare you the details.

Anyway, I was riding the blue polaris rmk700. I love that sled! It's plenty fast, it has reverse, and electric an starter. It's a little heavy but oh well... I manage.:)

I played hooky from work today to go sledding... and I'm not in the least bit sorry!:D

I can't believe how much snow we have up there still. I was expecting some spring like conditions but to my surprise winter is far from over in the high country.:D From the looks of our snow depth I might still be able to sled up into June!8) God I love this place!!!!!!!!!!!

The Branch Doctor

Yeah baby I'm blowing off work tomorrow to go sledding..... again.:D

On our way home from sledding last week we stopped into the ski-doo dealership to check out the sleds and there was one of them that was a hell of a deal so my buddy gave them $500 to hold it for him. He did some fanagling and somehow managed to come up with the money to pay it off.

So, not only do we have over 24" of fresh powder from yesterday.... we're picking this bad mofo on the way up there.8)

Tomorrow is going to be RIGHTOUS!:D

It was a bitch trying to get my sled turned around so I could drive it out of the 7ft cavern I stuck it in. Good thing I carry a shovel!:D

cleaned out the carport and found a disc with some old snomobile pics. some of these may be reposts. first one is wagner gap on top of the siskiyou range (oregon/calif. border). next 2 are me and my buddy kreg somewhere along the ridgetop, calif in the back ground. next 3 are my buddy ryan who we were always rescuing as you can tell! we had to hike a long way to get to him so we got his camera out of his pack before rescuing him:). the last 4 are me, then kreg, then ryan, then me again. in the6th pic you can just make out the toe of ryans boot sticking up out of the snow
