Ipowerweb sent me an email awhile back stating that there were making some massive changes to the server and it was gonna be friggin up now and again. I'm supposed to get another email when they change me over.
If it gets bad I'm gonna have to make that move again.

Slow. Cantonese is incredibly difficult. However, I have learned to say tree climbing, rope, lanyard, handsaw, "stand clear!", etc. My goal is to be able to order dim sum in a restaurant, but I'm ways off from that still.

You probably should force yourself to take a dedicated class. How long do you plan on staying there?
And also, is there stills Ricky's or Pinky's tattoo parlor there?
rumination
11-03-2007, 08:10 PM
Yeah I've been thinking about the classes. They aren't cheap and they are very time consuming. I've also been advised by several people that if I am going to take classes I would be better off in the long run learning Mandarin instead of Cantonese.
My contract goes through April 1. If things go well I will renew. If not, then I'll be making a new plan.
I don't know about the tattoo parlors. I'll ask around. Do you remember where they were?

I called Ipowerweb when the TH was down earlier. I waited on the phone for 20 minutes for the tech to answer, and sure enough 2 minutes before he picked up the phone, the TH came back online. And again, sure enough, he told me he couldn't do anything if nothing was happening.
He DID tell me to keep calling whenever that happened and eventually he'll be able to see... maybe. I told him I thought the forum was under a DOS attack. So, I have him on speeddial and they're open 24/7.

The dogginess is less frequent, but I'm still getting hit once in a while. Maybe 7-8 times today when it froze for over a minute. By now i'm used to it and have a second tab ready for surfing other sites while waiting for the TH pages to load. I can usually catch up on 3 threads on another forum in the time it takes the TH site to 'unfreeze'.
At least for now it's only a temporary delay, not lasting for hours like before.

Cookies clutter up your hard drive, clearing them will help to improve your hard drives efficiency but cookies are also helpful if you log onto the same sites all the time as they can store your personal preferences for that particular site thus speeding up your log in times.

They say the internet is equal. But I wonder if some sites have a higher priority rating programmed into the servers.
It seems this like this site comes and goes. For each part of the country, it works differently.
For example Al is in Northern Ohio, and his last post says it is slow, but at the same time, mine was fast.
Then another day mine will be slow but others are fast.

On a different note, but perhaps related...Butch, what's up with the icons indicating thread status??? They used to indicate read and unread, and if I had posted to that thread or not. Now it's all a mishmash with no way for me to figure out the code.
Or am I just off the res here?

I search that way too Butch by number of unread posts: , but it used to be really clear to decipher if you had posted in a thread or not and if there were new posts in that thread or not now it's a weird code that I'm yet to figure out. It changed a little while back now, and there's all these weird little envelope type codes as well as some circle ones, I dunno I figured I musta just woke up dumber one day :|:

There's two different icon styles that are being used, God only knows how the software decides which style to use on each thread.
You folks know the circle ones, they have been here at the TH for a long time.
The envelope ones are the 'old' vBulletin standard. Open envelope means unread posts, closed envelope means you've read it. An arrow overlayed on the envelope means you've posted in it.
Burnham
11-19-2007, 04:56 PM
