Country Music Television called me a few weeks ago and asked to do a bit on the Predator. Here I am interviewing for an episode on country fried home videos.

Rotax Robert

Here I am doing a warmup and prestretching a new chain befor the show. Camera crew was glued to me all day and I had to wear a open mike alday also. That oughta keep the sensors busy.

Rotax Robert

This pic is after the show and I promissed Jeff "fishhuntcutwood" that he could run it with me. I have to say he did one heck of a job. "flawless cut jeff" That cut would have won in any show. In fact that is a cmt camera on him, heck he might be famous.

You go fellas! :) predator rocks!

Rotax Robert
05-18-2007, 09:46 PM
Ole Bill and truck were born the same year

The first pic is of a good freind of mine "Ole Bill on the Hill" or to some "Cougar Bill" as a cougar attacked him while he was mowing his lawn one afternoon and no BS here, Bill beat him off with his cane. The second pic is of an old Mack truck that a friend of mine owns. She still runs and was Hauling logs still in the mid 1980's. Guess the year of this baby.

Here is a pic of me almost getting it done, I took a 2nd place here with a 2.7 second cut. This saw is a 088KD normaly this saw wears a muffler while cutting fire wood but she can rock in a race also.

Rotax Robert

Here is a pic of the Toyota and the Newest saw out there. A buddy of mine built this over the winter without anybody knowing and thought he would sneek in and take 1st place. HA, we sent them packin. Both saws made good cuts at around 1.5 sec or so but it's still a mile when you gotta doit in 1 flat.

Rotax Robert
05-18-2007, 10:19 PM
I'll post more pics as I get them sent to me or downloaded, should have some great vids soon also.

And Paul B. are calling me a showoff ???

JamesTX
05-18-2007, 10:26 PM
Why isn't that Toyota saw using a belly bar? How tight do they have to cinch it up to keep the chain from sagging?

Paul B
05-18-2007, 11:12 PM
Rotax, since the biggest saw I own is an 026, I cant really call you anything, you do what you need to do and you kick ass where you can. Predator is top of the food chain, dont let it falter amigo :D

I wanna see yo and big Gary go heads up with comparable saws this summer... :)

Rotax Robert
05-18-2007, 11:37 PM
Man I am looking forward to it and it is only about 3 weeks away. I am sure it will be one heck of a battle. The boys from Buckley apparently have been reworking the Binford saw and Gary has been tuning his up also. We did take time this winter to bump the Predator up a bit also. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I am a showoff. "A big shot is nothing more than a little shot who kept on shooting"

Earth First, my freind...we'll log the other planets later

JamesTX, the toyota is wearing a belly bar. it is the inline 4cyl behind the V8 and you are right about one thing his chain was to loose for my comfort. It looked like it was going to fly off while idleing. I will get some video of it cutting and you'll see how scary it looked.

I told you in a PM that I tell anyone who'll listen that Rotax said I made a good cut. Man, I can't thank you enough. You offered to let me run it with you next year, and I'm going to hold you to that. I'll be there. I kid you not, you made my month! People have sent me vids of the Predator via email for a couple of years now saying, "I saw this, and thought of you...." Well, now I can say I've run it.

Robert, you're a gentleman and a sportsman. After talking with you after the show, I'll tell everyone that Rotax Robert is a good guy.

I'm still working on the video. My buddy is having a hard time making it a readable mpeg, and not a DVD.

Here's a couple of pics I posted in the Logging Show thread, but will repost here. And then two from you in '05 I think, at Sequim.

Thanks again.

I tried to shoot video with the little camera and still with the big one, (at the same time) with lousy results:

Robert had to attend his son's HS graduation, so his stand ins ran the Predator

GASoline71
06-12-2007, 11:38 AM
It was a good show by Robert's stand ins... They still made a sub-2 second cut. I think it was like 1.79 seconds or something like that. They still took first place in the Unlimited Hot Saw class.

Robert had lost his voice from singing in "church" on Friday night so it was fun to hear him squeak when he talked all weekend long. I didn't know singing in church was that strenuous...;)

Great Job!!!

Here is this years Deming trophy, I suppose it's a good thing I did win when they put the Predator on the front of the trophies. I think it caused a bit of a stir amoungst the ranks because had I not won somebody was going to have to hang the Predator on thier wall or make kindling out of it.

spent the morning setting up for the Double Ender race this weekend. Here is a 088kd and Art Martins old 655bp. I got them tached in pretty close. these will be wearing a pipe for the race and I will get to that tommorrow and re-tach them again. these will be the two smallest saws in the show on Double ender setup. We'll see how they do.

With that much HP how do you keep from breaking the chains?

Rotax Robert
09-14-2007, 09:37 PM
I don't get many cuts out of my chain as it tends to stretch out of pitch. I have only ever broke one chain but that was more my fault than the chains. ie: I was a rookie unlimited cutter at the time. I shorten my chains one link and keep using them for demo's etc. but always race with a newer chain.
The chain is the weak link "no pun intended"

Jeff, I have ran these double-enders for a while. 088/046 on above quote

I started with a 088 kd/ 084 rr (ken dunn) (rotax robert)
for the first few years.

The next couple years was a 088 kd/ 066rr "no pipe on 066".

Last year I ran a 088 kd/ 046 kd

None of the above saws match eachothers power band nor do they have too. I found that a dead match is actualy a hinderance, they need to compliment eachother. ie: A speed demon saw on pipe can be helped by a good muffler'd saw, as an example.

On my setups I am putting a saw with a boatload of hp with a saw that has a truckload of torque, and yes you can sprocket up or down to compliment what you are trying to achieve. I can't give all my secrets here as Gas71 will run and tell all the Buckley boys.

I will say though that when a 088/046 setup hands a pair of 090's thier A$$ something is going right. Wait till they see my 088kd/3120kd double-ender.

Thinking about starting a new project. Here is what I am thinking.

I thought the Predator could use a tow vehicle for parades etc. I am thinking about building another engine identicle in every way to the Predator and stuffing it in a lawnmower. I could then put the Predator on a small trailer and tow it around for parades etc.

Also I would'nt mind using it for lawnmower drags and lawnmower tractor pulls.
Just a thought but I am thinking it would be one hell of a cool toy.

Rotax Robert 8)

fishhuntcutwood
10-09-2007, 01:52 AM
That would be hella cool, and from a practical standpoint, it'd be nice to have one engine platform to work with, as far as parts availability and supply. But I doubt the tow vehicle would run as hard as the saw, huh?

It'd be hard to catch traction in a mower with that much power wouldn't it? I'd think it'd almost be too much, and would maybe think of a rear or center mount. I dunno....just thinking out loud.

Al Smith

You would be surprised how much a mini puller can pull.Using a transfer sled they use the same rolling traction theory that the 12,000 pound unlimited pullers use.I wouldn't be a bit surprised that their hole shots are spinning the tires at 100 miles per hour.Ha,I pulled the antiques and the tractor in high gear would barely make 20 MPH.

Just have to make them sing together. when they're tuned right, a pair of saws will sing to you (any pair) 088/84...088/066...088/046 they did not like my 088/3120 combo cuz the 3120 has a problem with its jug, kinda a two piece, but it is way friggin fast. Of all the doubles out there, mine sound just a little bit different, and no I aint fuelin them. It has to be a match. Not braggin to much here, but it aint bad when you can take a 088 and 046 (both kd wood saws) against a pair 090's (race saws) and hand them thier a$$ on a silver platter

I can't find the one where me and my regular lift partner showed them how it is realy done on a small log we were .2 faster than these cuts. These were a bunch of old stretched out chains that I decided to use up and would'nt use in a full blown race.

I get nothing, and no one has managed to record one of these shows yet and get it up on youtube or something :what: . I'm starting to get rather dissapointed in this day and age of technology and all.

Frig that man I got a tv and a half. But I refuse to pay to be advertised to and beyond that I don't even bother grabbing the couple free channels that are floating through the air, tv ads are poison for the mind. I only watch what I choose to watch.8)

Well, a guy at work told me he DVR'd it, and yesterday he told me it was posted on Google, but I can't find it. I don't know if it's just the segment, or the whole show or whatever. And being part of the show, they may have already removed it due to copyrights or whatever. I'll talk to him again later this week.

We'll see.
