I can't remember where the old morning thread was.

Yesterday wore me out. It was a hard day of climbing. My customer met me on the ground as I got out of the last tree around 8pm. He kept asking me "So you think you'll still be able to climb big trees like this in another four or five years?" Why folks like to ask stuff like that when you are tired or "Have you ever fallen out of a tree?" before you go up, I have no idea. I told him I wanted to still be able to climb big trees when I am 50 and that I know several folks who are doing fine later than that. I added that I hope I don't have to as I'll have other folks trained up but that I can when needed climb a high as any of the punk kids.

Speaking of punk kids its time to wake up mine.

Today is a paperwork day for us too. The truck is in the shop - nothing major, just a tranny flush and some other stuff. I never ask to closely, that's Tree Guy's thing. Off too pick him up from the shop shortly and we'll do a few estimates. Then go for long drive over an old logging road. J/K

Grinding isn't that bad, it's the maintenance that does it for me. I don't mind grinding a couple days out of the week doing residential work, I don't care so much for huge land clearing jobs with massive numbers of huge stumps.

Small stumps (under 2.5') are kinda fun, but that's because it only takes a few minutes to grind them. Roots aren't that fun to chase however. Dry spells cause the dirt to become dust whilest grinding, makes it hard to breathe.

Got the bearing changed out 2 hours ago, changed a control cable and some teeth, had to deal with some other shite and now I'm nearly off to grind till dark :).

I blew a hydraulic ram in one of my outriggers today. At least it isn't a major leak, but I have hydraulic fliud dribbling down out of the outriggers. Not good. Called 3 places and nobody can get to it for at least a week. Hydraulic House said the last one they did was about $1200. :O

Had a small 2" stub poke me on the inside of my forearm just above my wrist this morning, it's getting more sore as the day wears on. Swelling up on me and making it hard to stretch my fingers or make a fist.

Can't find the camera I just bought 2 days ago. Wanted to take pictures of the big fat dead pine removal I did this morning but the camera wasn't in the truck, so I assumed it was in my pickup or at home. Well, it isn't. :(

If I ever end up picking up another drink, it won't be due to some major event. It will be after a day like today with a dozen PITA little things all going wrong one after another. The kind of day where you finally just say "F it, I need a drink!" Well, maybe another day. I'm not going to have a drink today, it's not worth it. 8)

Good morning treehousers! I'm off to slay more dragons again today. I'm surprisingly sore from yesterday, spent about 9 hours in the bucket trimming on some huge old live oaks at a retail plant nursury. Lots of obstacles so every piece had to be caught and thrown down into the open spaces.

Today I also get to help out another young climber who is in the process of getting his chit together. I'm selling him an old 200T cheap ($200) so he can make a living. He also just found an old Ford F250 that he's buying. The seller is going to swap out treework for the truck so my buddy is all excited about it. Hopefully by next week he'll be ridin'. :)

I'm afraid the gas in my boat might be going stale, I may have to drain and refill the tank before I finally get the thing on the water again.

I've got several projects around the house that are on the agenda but all require money. Right now I'm trying to save a few dollars and plan ahead for winter. I'm below my YTD savings goal right now and would like to sock away a few more dollars before the end of the year. So with that on my mind I'm unwilling to go out and spend money today. Around here, I find there's usually a 10-15 minute break in traffic at about 7:50 and again at 8:50. Not huge but noticable if you pay attention to such things. I always try to hit that window whenever I'm heading towards downtown in the morning and it makes a big difference.

Also in the late afternoons traffic virtually disappears after 6:45. If I need to give a bid I try to do it at 7pm, after traffic and well before dark.

Anyway, this morning there is a low pressure system sitting over us and it has been raining steadily for the last 5-6 hours. Today's job was cancelled so I went down and renewed all my license tags (they expire next month). My pickup, boat, trailer and utility trailer all together cost $98 for the year. I still can't beleive y'all don't work in the rain. I'm sorry but years of being in the bush, rain is just weather. My good buddy used to call it liquid sunshine when we worked on the coast. I remember a few wintertime shifts of fifteen days straight of rain on the island, somedays getting more than 100mm in 24hrs (4"). As I've said that was supposed to be the point where we wouldn't work cause the roads/hillsides would get to saturated and I can remember watching our boss dump out the little rain gauge and saying 'good to go then'. I only had two days of trees last week and worked in the pouring rain one of those days. And today I'm sitting in my nice dry warm office :P .

My favorite word is "context". I've done weather related work for most of my life. When I was a treeplanter the only conditions allowable were cold and wet- the only weather for transplanting bare-root seedlings is when they're dormant. Spent many a day in freezing/mixed rain on "the slopes",then 100+ degrees picking cones in the summer before they flared. My wildlife surveys are tuned to breeding seasons. Snow dos'nt skeer me, unless it shuts down a contract. Getting older also changes things... I'd rather be laying tile in my kitchen this winter than working in the woods!

I made a pea gravel play area for my ex-wife's in home daycare. It was around a swingset and other stuff. Don't remember the footage of the area... but it had to be a minimum uf 6" deep.

I moved 12 yards of the crap from the driveway to the back yard with a shovel and wheelbarrow...

:whine: Another crew is off to the Navy Base for another 2 hours of paperwork so they can lay a pallet of sod, which might take an hour to do. :whine:

Slept in this AM... leaving for Hartford late this afternoon. I'm pretty psyched to finally attach some faces to some names. Hope to see some of you guys up there.

It's cold and raining outside... time for a killer breakfast!!!

Well, not TOO killer. No yolks, butter, or meat... but still good!

Clear skies and temps ranging from the high 20s at night to the mid 40s in the day. I need to go do a bid but I am not excited about it.

I woke up this morning with a booger eating child climbing on top of me.

"Do those taste good?"

"I need to tell you something...sometimes I need to clean out my nose with my fingers."

Seems fair to me.

Freezing cold here again, some snow but not enough to plow yet. Just about to have a nice cup of joe and light the fire.

Had a bit of snow here in the Great Plains State. But it's gone this morning. I think I will just stay inside with my boy watch some football & feed the fire.

two strips of bacon, one egg and two pieces toast for me, and one of those little tins of V-8. one bid to do at 1, a report I have been dragging my heels on needs finishing, dinner at mom and pops. oh, and since I am working at the tree lot through december (starting on the first) and landscrapering on my two days off (stil landscrapering this week too) I have now booked every day to christmas for work excepting this wednesday (have to get a bit of gift buying done). That and I have two multi day jobs slated for after the new year when the weather warms up.

sigh, no rest for the wicked.
oh yeah, and we are another week closer to seeing junior! :D kickin up a storm inside momma these days, she actually called me at work yesterday and said " tell you child to stop kicking the heck out of my insides. sigh" I coule tell she had a smile on her face though, :)

"two strips of bacon, one egg and two pieces toast for me"

Man, that would be about four bites of food for me.

moderation is my goal. I figure thats best for the body in the long run. Most days I dont actually do breakfast, today was a rarity.

Darin, FWIW, I read a couple of years ago that the eating of boogers is a decidedly healthful practce. The mucous is mostly starch and the dose is quite small so calories are hardly an issue but the gunk trapped in the mucous is mostly pollen the ingestion of which may help decrease the incidence of allergic reactions later in life.
Personally I have not resumed any booger eating practices that I may have had in my infancy and highly recommend that you abstain while talking with customers. However, privately you can gross Kathy out by encouraging Haley to "Eat your boogers, they are good for you."

Just think if that was taught and encouraged in school. MY kids would be home schooled 4 SURE.

An impact wrench would make that job alot nicer.

Jack stands are your friend :).

You got a plan on how you're going to get it switched?

Gotta take the whole leaf pack out to get at the center bolt. I picked up the leaf yesterday but I'm probably just going to take it back to him to install the main leaf. He said it would take him 15 minutes so why not.

2 bolts through the frame, and 4 U bolt nuts, shouldnt be too bad.

Here I go!
