Best of luck Natalie. I hope everything goes smooth and you get one of those mild mannered sleeping babies I've heard so much about. Tell your husband to bring a lot of snacks for himself. I ate and ate and still bonked hard after the kid finally came out. He should also bring any type of over the counter medication he might need. Good luck getting some Tylenol for Dad at the hospital.
I would say have fun but... you know.

Tunnel vision and a little light headed. I would be armed with a case of cliff bars and some ultra slimfast if I did it again. I have a hard time keeping my sugar levels up. In fact I think I need to go grab some cookies as I type.

May 15th, 5:45 am. The first one is usually a little late. Haley was 12 days late but I wouldn't wish that on you by predicting it. She was also 10 lbs. 11 ounces, something else I wouldn't recommend.

I think cutting the chord is a bone they throw us guys to feel like we have done something. Mainly I just watched while the person I care about most in this world experienced truck loads of pain and discomfort. Oh and I kept my mouth shut where appropriate.

That was the number one piece of advice to the husbands at our Childbirth Ed. classes.
Thanks for all the good wishes!
I have a bunch of snacks packed in my hospital bag for Tree Guy and a few more to be added to a small cooler to take with us. Our hospital has a fridge where you can put stuff for the husbands.
Do I get to predict too? I say May 13 at 3:35pm. I'm hoping I don't have the baby before Wednesday because my dad doesn't come home from logging camp until then.

I'm still here. Thought I might be getting induced this weekend but all is well. I have lost weight my last few appointments so yesterday my doctor sent me for a NST - Non Stress Test. It's basically where they check the baby's heartbeat and movement, along with any contractions I may be having. Then I got sent for an ultrasound to make sure the placenta and umbilical cord were working properly and I had enough amniotic fluid. Everything came back perfect, and it was great to get to see my baby again.
The main concern was that the placenta was starting to breakdown early and that was causing my weight loss. If that was happening then I would of been induced right away since I'm considered full-term already. Fortunately that's not the case so he's going to let me go naturally.
I guess I'm going to have to make sure I check in daily!

He doesn't really have an opinion on when the baby will be born. I said that my feeling was that it would be early next week and he said it was likely. I have another appointment next Friday and if I'm still pregnant by then he will schedule me to be induced on Monday, May 21st.

not having any younglets of my own yet, I figure ole Al's advice is pretty valid. :) It's a woman/mother thing, she will know, and be fine with it.Ha,with the birth of my two,my ex handled it better than me.For heavens sake my actual part it in was likely less than 5 minutes, being real honest about it.;)
Now then, about births,my ex handled things pretty well,I was the nervous one,to a point. However when my only daughter, who now has a masters degree became in the family way at the tender age of 16,I fell apart at the seams. You know though,in spite of my worry and fretting, nature had it's way and things worked out just fine,in spite of me.

Due to the fact the pickled eggs most likely is not a good idea,I came up with another brain storm or brain fart as may be the case.
It has been said the the yet unborn infant can recognize certain sounds while still enwombed, such as the mother's voice, music etc. With that in mind, get a tape player and play rap music, followed by never ending renditions of Tiny Tims,"Tiptoe through the tulips"I Imagine that after a day or so,young treeson will make the great escape just to able to turn off that obnoxious music.:|:

Yes, that's what I've been worried about. Fortunately it's the last resort. It will only be used if the prostaglandin gel doesn't work and that's supposed to work 95% of the time so.... hopefully I won't be in that 5%. I've been having lots of contractions for the last 10 days or so they just will stop. Hopefully that's a good sign and the gel will just keep them going and progressing.

I have a treemenduous amount of faith that you are going to have the most beautiful baby with no problems at all.
---well at least until they get to the 'terrible 2s', and then the defiant years, and then the preteen years, and then, heaven forbid, the independant teenager years, and then the leaving you for college years, and and and ......
Oh boy, better shut up now :D

A pregnant woman's husband can refer to her as 'pretty huge' without too much risk of bodily harm, but for the rest of us it's a very risky proposition.

I'm not very big (in my opinion). I'll find and post a picture later. Besides, size doesn't matter. :D
I'm being induced tomorrow if nothing happens before then. :( Not what I wanted but on the other hand I am ready to have this baby!
Sometimes I think there should be a manual everyone is required to read on how to talk to, or NOT talk to, a pregnant woman. I can't believe what complete strangers will say to me. Either I'm too tiny and starving the baby or I'm too huge and will never lose the weight, and if one more stranger walks up to me and rubs my belly I'm going to punch them. Oh, and the 472 phone calls and emails saying "Haven't you had that baby YET" are really fun too.
Okay, rant over. :)

One of the senior managers at Hazel's work (a real loser) asked one of her colleagues if Hazel was pregnant. There reply was that 'She had a lymph problem which was causing the weight increase and it would only get worse'. They also said Hazel was quite upset about it so not to ask. He said nothing and constantly avoided her until 7 months in when Hazel was preparing the leave work, by that time most of the other people where she works knew about the joke. Pretty cruel but funny all the same, even he had a chuckle.

Now,a little story befitting the blessed event. After the birth of my first born,I was exausted, wrung out,all done in,wow.I didn't do a damned thing expect maybe 5 minutes at the most some 9 months previous.
How some ever, during the ex Mrs Smith's labor and delivery,I got so much into it that I was pushing with her.Lawdy it felt like I had been kicked in the neather regions by a huge mule, several times, ugh.:O The baby's mother of course was full of pep.
I said something to one of the nurses several days later ,laughing of course. She remarked that in that small hospitol they rotated delivery nurses every 6 months. The reason, thy push too and develop 'roids in the process.Double ugh.

Just got home. Roman John-Michael was born May 22/07 at 12:02pm. He weighed 9lbs 7oz and was 22.5 inches long. Considering I only gained a total of 18lbs during my pregnancy you can say I was all baby! He has dropped to a little over 8lbs which is normal and healthy. We are both doing great but I'm exhausted. I'll post more later and include a picture.

Thanks everyone.
Roman has been a very good baby so far. He's sleeping with daddy right now so I have a few minutes.
For those that are interested a quick summary of his birth:
We go the phone call Monday, May 21 at 7 in the morning to go in to be induced. I was induced at noon (after waiting for the doctor to show up for 4 hrs - ) and after monitoring me and baby for an hour to make sure there were no bad side effects sent us home and told us to come back at 6pm for a second dose. We live about 40 mins away from the hospital so decided to go to my sister's instead, who is only 15 mins away. We hung out there for a while, Tree Guy helping BIL with some projects around the house and I just hung out with my sister. I started getting some good contractions and we were back to the hospital for 6pm. I was already at 3 centimeters by then so they decided to leave me. At 7:30pm they broke my water and my contractions got fast and hard. By 9:30pm or so I had my epiderul (heaven) and was able to get some sleep here and there. 9:00am on Tuesday, May 22 I started to push. This is where things stopped being so easy.
I pushed for over 2 hours before we all realized that I was not going to be able to deliver him on my own. I was beyond exhausted. It was decided to vacuum him out. They basically put this little round suction thing on his head and pull as I push. When they got his head out everyone went crazy, yelling at me to stop pushing. He had the cord wrapped tight around his neck and was pretty blue. They had to cut it off of him before I could deliver the rest of him and then they rushed him off to the warmer to get him breathing. It took a bit but he started to pink up. Probably was a very short time but it felt like hours. They had Tree Guy pulled over there but no one was telling me what was going on. Finally I could hear them say that he was pinking up and they called over to me that he was okay. I only got to hold him for about 30 seconds though before they had to check him again. My recovery took a long time. Normally they have you out of delivery and in the maternity ward in an hour and it took me 4 hours to be well enough to do so. I didn't get to hold him again until then. :(
We stayed at the hospital until yesterday. Things are going really well now. We're just headed off to the doctor's in a few minutes.
Side note of life with baby - it's taken me about 3 1/2 hours to write this post.
Here is a picture:

wow natalie, gorgeous baby.
With our first, My wife went through 72 hours of labour, and refused the epidural. In the end, they used the rubber sucker tool (the von tuesse machine) to drag him out. Turns out his head was twisted, and would never have come out under ordinary conditions. like you, she was 4 hours before going back into the maternity ward.

That is an unusually large baby, and your first, which takes longer anyway.
For what it's worth,my ex,who was a little woman at 5 feet tall, took most likely 72 hours on the first one.She never dialated more than 5 cm before she shoved that kid out.He was only 6 lb 4 oz, 20 inchs which by the way,so was I.The second at only 4 lb 3 oz and 17 inches took about 48 hrs.
Ah but nature has it's way and I'm glad this story has a happy ending, good going mom.:)

He IS a beautiful baby, what wonderful coloring. I thought Burnham was just being 'nice'.....but I'll have to agree, "Nat, he is one of the most handsome babies I have ever seen."
I would have had an older sister, but she had the cord wrapped around her neck and she wasn't as fortunate. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad your outcome was so much better!!! How scary! :\:
I certainly wasn't going to say anything before, but now that you KNOW.....I was so totally amazed at how unbelievably painful those contractions are. I had about three (!) When they decided it was time for a C-section I was relieved. They still had to use forceps to get my son out.....he was big too, 10lb3oz and wanted to stay IN mom!!
It's kinda cool when they come out 'already grown', not nearly as 'fragile' feeling. Wait until you pick up the first 'little newborn' after this.....very strange.
Congrats again and thanks for sharing. The 3-1/2 hour posts are pretty normal for kids running around. Just remember to save often cuz it sometimes is even longer!

He's already a week old today - it went by so fast! We're really lucky in that he is just such an easy going baby. He only ever fusses if he doesn't get fed fast enough (which is about 3 seconds after he wakes up). He sleeps really well too. We can even put him down in his bassinet wide awake and he puts himself to sleep. We'll see how long that lasts. :)
Tree Guy and I are really enjoying him. Tree Guy was supposed to go back to work Monday of this week but is now only going to work Thursday and Friday of both this week and next. He doesn't want to leave him.

You guys will probably start to make more money now too, as the Treeguy realizes just how valuable his time away is ;) .

So interesting you said that. Tree Guy has said several times that if seeing that baby being born doesn't make you believe there's a God nothing will. It is an amazing experience.

Nice looking boy! The Tree Guy has proud poppa syndrome, I didn't want to go to work either, I just wanted to stay with Jon after he was born. You have to kick him in the ass and tell him go to work, and that Roman will be here when he gets home. I'm glad everything is ok.

There's the advantage of being the boss - he can send his guys to work and stay home with me. I say he's not working but he's still booking estimates and jobs. Besides, I LIKE having him home - between him and my mom I haven't cooked a meal or cleaned since I had Roman. I'm taking advantage of every second.

You go, girl...glad y'all are doing so well. Roman is a beautiful boy...I understand TreeGuy wanting to be around.
My best to you all.

This thread resulted in a healthy baby boy. That's always a good thing.
