Hi, my name is Chucky, and I'm an incorrigible Tr'ouser. I like to kick back and enjoy some suds while in the Tree House. Since my computer is on the second floor, and the keg is in the cellar, I've hooked the keg directly to the cold water line, and run a tap tube from the second floor bathroom tap directly to the computer room so I don't have to travel so far to the beer fridge.

hey everybody,
i'm known to some as the freshprince and i live in north carolina. i guess i am predominately a rock climber who has recently started slaying trees. well, actually, i just pull on ropes and feed brush into a chipper, so that makes me a groundman- but at least i'm learning to climb wood. thanks for all the cool posts and pictures.

Hang tuff fresh prince. I had to pull brush for 6 months in Highlands NC before they let me climb. Then it was while they ate lunch I climbed, they mumbled at me while eating. Then it was on and I was eating my lunch in the tree and they were mumbling on the ground.
I was taught to free climb the tree to the size of my ankle.hang a pully.tie in to it. rap down. do your work.

I was raised down in south georgia just outside the okefenokee swamp with alot of gaters, mocasins, rattlers, not acreas but fields of homegrown, tobacco picking, and butter bean shelling on the porch.
If you want to hug on gators instead of trees and rock, here sign up.
http://www.okefenokee.com/tourarmadillo.htm
Looks like offer tours of my home you can swimm with gators for 5 grand.
I've hunted them their eyes glow red in the light. It sucks after you shoot um fer some grubbings and standing in weiast high water your pen light goes out.
I wouldn't free climb trees nor swimm with gators much if you want to get stumpers age.

Yep, I got lost in the woods when I was 6 months old (oh yeah, I was an early walker) and, Ummm, Long story short, was Raised By Wolves.
Yep thats my story, Thats why I look like that in my avitar.
One day, I snuck up on a family of australians and was going to eat them for "Tukkah" when all of a sudden, while I was choking their leader (I still run with the pack, but I have small K-9's) there was a flash, and I started getting hit with Vegemite sandwitches. (Stuffs aweful,I think its poison)
Well, anyway, thats where the only known pic of me came from.
Yep, thats my story and Im stickin to it!

Thanks for the welcome all. I would second the appreciation of the knowledge base on the site, and the willingness to share. I have picked up many interesting links about arborculture, as well. It is interesting, maybe even shocking, to learn about proper tree care and then take a drive around my area, or even my neighborhood, and look at the trees. Ninety-five percent of them look like hammered whale poop. Poster children for what not to do to a tree. I am seriously considering seeing if people in this area would pay for proper tree care.

I would much rather get lined out here than make a fool of myself to a customer. I also have thick skin, so don't worry. I am not sure about doing this for a living -- don't misunderstand, I would love it, but I'm not sure I can make it go. I've got a lot up in the air right now. If circumstances allow, my cousin and I might give it a whirl. He will probably be the climber to start. I've got an ag chemical background, so I was thinking of going for my ornamental licenses and integrating that, as well. Start small, stay within our capabilities, and do an outstanding job. Then we would see if we can make it pay. Its all blue sky right now, but I hope we can decide to try or not by the first of the year.
Anyway, ARBORICULTURE. The cool thing is that I can misspell stuff that I know how to spell. What's that little abc check thing do?

Welcome Mike, Good pics. You must be doing more than tree work to live in D.C. I'm only down the road from ya, just outside Fredericksburg. If you get a tree job where you need some more guys, count me in. What got you interested in tree work? Looks like a red oak you're climbing. Strong wood.
Well I am a turntable DJ also, but that is more of a hobby. I dont get paid to do that yet! But I get paid very well to climb. I got into tree work when I was in my last year of High School in Texas. It was a job that was hooked up through a friend in church. After that I went in the USMC and tried other professions. After years of being unhappy at jobs I went back to my roots. And began tree work all over. I got back from Michigan last week and the next day had secured a position with Custom Touch Tree Care. I leave my bridges open and have many friends within the buisness. I have a nice size collection of shirts from all the companys I've worked for. I am most happy when Im caring for a trees. I'll send out a message if I could use you.

Hey everyone! I just found this site a couple of days ago. You might have seen me on the other two poplular sites.
I didn't see this thread until I had already posted. So here goes.
I started climbing when my dad had a bid to prune trees on our property. He had the mind set of most people, "geez, that's a lot of money, I'll just get my son to do it."
Well he told me about it, and we started researching gear. I dived into Alex Shigo's books, G.F. Berinaks book, and the Tree Climbers Companion. I learned alot. So we ordered the gear, and I read ALOT, on the forums.
Shortly after my head hurt, from all the stuff I was learning, I went to work for a friend of mine in the business. (Kinda got scared at everyone yelling at the newbies to get proper training before they attempted anything related to arborculture.)
Then my gear finally arrived and we played and played. I then pruned our 22 trees on our property from very mature honey locusts to maples, and the younger trees.
It gave me enough experience before I got the bug to start my own business. That was over a year ago, and I'm still going strong.
I never stop learning and educating myself, shoot I spend almost two hours everynight browsing the forums and the web. (There is a lot of cr@p to wade through.)
All in all, I got the tree climbing bug, and I absolutely LOVE what I do.
Thanks everyone for the information you take the time to share with others!

I became obsessed with trees while I was a full time resident at a zen center in northern california. got out and moved to the coast and started working for a few companies and then went to work for sam noonan in santa rosa and worked for him for a while and was working for a surf shop before moving out to hawaii. going to UH on oahu now, studying horticulture and surfing.
and as a great tree guy once told me... "remember, SURFING COMES FIRST!"

My name is Mike,I live in the midwest in the state of misery,oh sorry that's the state of Missouri, around the Kansas City area.I collect saws, and have been messing around with saws from around age 12.
I work at a Stihl dealership and I'am getting ready to go and get my masters certificate.I was told about the site by a friend in Sweden Magnus, and have been a member of the chainsaw collectors forum for almost a year.He said and I quote"the guys and gals here are great you'll like it here".Glad to be here and looking forward to meeting many of you,now that I've made my first post.Lets get our tray tables and seat backs in their upright and locked postions, and lets get the party started!!:D

Hi ya'll- I hail from Central Miss. and have been involved with tree stuff since the "80's( if you include the tree farm stuff). Started working construction, then went to an electric power company for a-while. While on the ROW crew, learned about climbing and bought some climbing gear and a Poulan Pro. As the years have progressed so has my equipment inventory( though nothing to compare with others). Haven't been able to do much since 9-11- odd and end jobs. Was activated since that time and was active during Katrina. Took a pretty good storm loss- used the insurance to buy a 55' bucket and some more equipment. Looking forward to getting back into the tree work full time( so is my WIFE!). Thanks Mr. Butch for an excellant site- and I thank all others for sharing the knowledge that can only make one better.

...how did I end up here? must've been a searching for saw info..
I'm not a "tree guy", but I came here looking for info on saws and it looks interesting, so I'll check it out for awhile. Theres a lot of crossover info here that relates to to work and play for me
I'm currently an estimator for a structural steel contractor, and it's not a job I like, but it pays the bills for now...I'd much rather be out in the field instead of being stuck in the office.
Outside of work I play with Jeeps and I own a Tucker Sno-Cat. these allow me to get out in the woods year round.

Well, I dont know many you folks but I sure am interested in cutting trees. I am Brian and my wife is mainly on the computer so I only found this place few days back.
I joined TreeBuzz a few days back and clicked a link and ended up here, figured I'd join what the heck but forgot about it all till today. So I clicked the link in my email and got the ball rolling.
Anyways, I am60 years old so no spring chicken and I have a small lot with a few trees a fell every now and then. No I dont do that climbing thing I see you fellows doing, all the trees close to the barn and house they gone long time ago. wwhats left I can cut easy though.
I just thought I'd drop by, say hi, and say take care up them trees ... be careful like coz I got a bad back from a small fall I took a few year ago and it sure makes the day a little slower then you'd like. You can spend a lot of time on the computer looking things up and reading and looking at pictures and stuff. I just have to share it with my wife and she interested more in other things like recipies and making clothes.
Take care of yourselves and dont go getting under no fallen tree. bye.

I live in the Boise Area, Idaho. Worked in the tree care and landscaping field, off and on, over the years, mostly as a secondary income. Finally left the corporate necktie job for full-time outdoors freedom. And you know, like most, robbing old ladies and stealing food stamps to get through the winter (that is of course a joke if the Feds are watching). Well I've been getting into the climbing full-time. Trying some newer techniques and then regressing. All in all Idaho is an OK place to live and I have hopes for it's future. I like send a shout out to a local, Old Monkey. Welcome, MrsRayfield!!!
I am assuming you are Mrs. Charlie Rayfield...I met Charlie at the recent GA TCC...he did a great job of organizing and coordinating the madness.
If you are the same, be sure to see the pictures we have posted of the GA TCC at http://gypoclimber.com/showthread.php?t=6336
And tell Charlie that I said, "Howdy".

I'D JUST LIKE TO SAY "HELLO" to all the tree guys out there ! At 62 plus yrs.
old, age is as old as you feel ! Some days like 25 and others like 80 ! Still
climbing , just slower and more cautious ! TODAY IS SATURDAY , took a load
of wood and wood chips to the dump, sharpened chipper knives and mowed the lawn. A pretty good day , all considered . Oh yeh ; also took a 45 minute
nap !! GOOD LUCK TO YOU ON YOUR RECENT INJURY MB and I hope to see you BACK IN THE SADDLE SOON !

Old Pup,
Good to hear that someone else as young as I am is still
climbing. You are absolutely right though, slower and more
cautious. My first time back in the saddle, since surgery late last
fall, will be next Sat. Small Oak take down and some trimming in a
few others.
Am looking forward to it, although with a bit of apprehension.
Not sure I'll in good enough shape yet. It'll be slow and
extra cautious.
MB Every word of encouragement and well wishing I've read from you
is coming right back at ya. Get well.

Sorry for not signing in here first (poor observation skills on my part...not so good for a climber eh?!) Hello to all from (very) sunny North Queensland Oz.
G'day;)
Sean
Hey everyone,
I've been checking out treebuzz for the past few weeks and then found this forum indirectly from there. I like the feel of the Tree House, although I might be the youngest one on here.

Nope, I'm up for the day. My foot only lets me get 2 to 3 hours sleep a night. I'll be glad when the pins and needles finally go away. I'll get a couple of naps in during the day.

Welcome to the new guys AROB and SeanFreeman, good to read ya.

I like your avatar better, leon. I had a friend snap this picture of me while we were messing around on a frozen lake. It was in Anchorage right after it snowed and the whole surface of the lake looked like this. I believe the cracks around my feet are from an old ice fishing hole.

...but right now I'm having a blast learning to climb and doing something useful once I get up there!
Got started a little over a year ago. Part-time / self-taught (but signed up for a local course next month where I expect to learn a lot). Climb for a friend who's trying to start an excavation/light sitework business and frequently gets asked to remove trees and limbs. That's where I fit in. He's great w/ the equipment, but is afraid of heights.
There sure is a lot to learn, so I hope you guys will put up w/ the occasional bone-head / newbie question. Not sure where this new "occupation" is going - all I know is I really enjoy the work and hope to do a lot more in the future.
