I'm looking for suggestions on a good double braid rope to try my hand at splicing. We had some 5/8" Yale stuff at the symposium, but the core and cover were the exact same color, which got very confusing!:whine:
So I'm thinking of trying some Blaze first and if successful, move on from there.

Blaze and Velocity are both fairly tough to splice compared to the double braid rigging ropes due to their much tighter braid. I suggest trying some Stable Braid or some other double braid rigging rope before tearing your hair out with the Blaze.

Stable braid or 10mm Beeline. The stable braid is an easy one to finish cuz the jacket's not as tight as 24 strand double braid. I'm told 10mm Beeline is a good first double braid splice too.

The EASIEST to splice is a sailing line like new england sta set. Rigging line will be just fine.
Stay away from velocity or blaze until you got the rhythm down.
