Deer ?
I just cant remember but was surronded my yellow eyed animals last night .
It was hard to see the animal itself but they all had yellow eyes.
If i shined one it would freeze liike a deer while i approached it.

On the ground or in trees? On the ground, could've been rabbits, in trees, probably coons. They'll both freeze fairly well when shined. Where they all around you, like you were being surrounded? Could've been deer. And was the "yellow" truely yellow or just the reflection of the retinas? I mean, if you could see the color yellow, and weren't seeing the reflection, you probably would've been able to see the animal itself.

Shoot yall aint no help.
The coyote in the street was likely 35 pounds, it was bigger than my blue healer.
These two what ever they are were here again , you can here umm in the woods walking around , sounds like a person or a deer, but i still cant lay my eyes on one.Frome the back of my house to the next nearest paved road is 20 miles at least ite the printice cooper,http://www.state.tn.us/agriculture/forestry/stateforest07.html
What 23,000 acres or what ever.
Anyhow not big at all compared to out west but for eastern tennessee if there is any wildlife left this is where it is.
Across the street from my home is another 11,000 acre water shed.
supposedly there are rattle snakes in the canton over 7 feet long but i havent seen any.
All i ever see are deer and turkey.
I cant wait to find out whats taken up here , when i get some time i should be able to go up and find there prints.
Thats kinda hard to do now because of all the leaves.
Oh well ill ask one of the rangers.

Coyotes belong to the family Canidae (dog family) along with other dog-like mammals such as the red fox, gray fox and wolf. The coyote looks like a medium-sized dog, but its nose is more pointed and its tail is bushier than most dogs. A coyote holds its tail down between the hind legs when running. Their fur is typically gray to yellow-gray with guard hairs tipped in black. The fur often has a tinge of red behind the ears and around the face, but fur color varies among individuals. Coyotes are 23 to 26 inches high and three to four and a half feet long. They typically weigh 20 to 40 pounds but sometimes weigh up to 55 pounds. Because of their long fur, coyotes are often mistaken as being much larger than they actually are. Illinois coyotes are usually larger than those from the western United States. A coyote's eyes are a striking yellow with large dark pupils, instead of brown, like most dogs. Their eyeshine is greenish gold. The nocturnal yaps and howls of coyotes may be their most distinguishing characteristic.

Their eyeshine is greenish gold

Crosses are sure possible.

In the article treeslayer attached they mentioned the eastern coyotes as being bred with wolves.

from wikipedia:

Coyotes will sometimes mate with domestic dogs, usually in areas like Texas and Oklahoma where the coyotes are plentiful and the breeding season is extended because of the warm weather. The resulting hybrids called coydogs maintain the coyote's predatory nature, along with the dog's lack of timidity toward humans, making them a more serious threat to livestock than pure blooded animals. This cross breeding has the added effect of confusing the breeding cycle. Coyotes usually breed only once a year, while coydogs will breed year-round, producing many more pups than a wild coyote. Differences in the ears and tail are generally what can be used to distinguish coydogs from domestic/feral dogs or pure coyotes.[21]

Coyotes have also been known on occasion to mate with wolves though this is less common as with dogs due to the wolf's hostility to the coyote. The offspring, known as a coywolf, is generally intermediate in size to both parents, being larger than a pure coyote, but smaller than a pure wolf. A study showed that of 100 coyotes collected in Maine, 22 had half or more wolf ancestry, and one was 89 percent wolf. A theory has been proposed that the large eastern coyotes in Canada are actually hybrids of the smaller western coyotes and wolves that met and mated decades ago as the coyotes moved toward New England from their earlier western ranges.[17] The Red Wolf is thought by certain scientists to be in fact a wolf/coyote hybrid rather than a unique species. Strong evidence for hybridization was found through genetic testing which showed that red wolves have only 5% of their alleles unique from either grey wolves or coyotes. Genetic distance calculations have indicated that red wolves are intermediate between coyotes and grey wolves, and that they bear great similarity to wolf/coyote hybrids in southern Quebec and Minnesota. Analyses of mitochondrial DNA showed that existing Red Wolf populations are predominantly coyote in origin

we have 'em in Boston, and I mean in Downtown :O

In my opinion, the "quickly and humanely" part ended the moment the snare was set.

It's set as a booby trap - a can containing the poisoned shell is set into the ground and some bait palced on top. When the coyote tries to get the bait, the shell goes off and send the poison into the coyote. It's a more sure kill than a shell alone.

Not sure of the mechanics of getting poison into a shell.

I don't like it because I have kids and pets. I'd hate for them to stumble across a forgoten trap and get killed.

Theze beast around my parts are bigger than normal.
Now i was at the utilitarian church of god this summer and saw a coy that was maybe 2.5 feet tall mangy and all couldnt have weighed more than 30 pound.

I really think it is too far south. The grinch range doesn't extend that far south, unless dark lives in Whoville.

Nah, he came down the river, grinches are aquatic creatures, thanks to evolution.

they have taken to the water quite well, and can cover a lot of territory.

there's also a dumber breed, but this one has the secret service drive him around.

I used to run the mountains in PA when I was younger. Yellow eyes that high off the ground are a cougar no doubt in my mind. I have been approached a few times over the years and was able to scare them away. The last one took me firing at it before it would leave. I was shaking so bad I missed it by five feet but it was enough to get it to leave. I hauled ass out of the woods after that. A farmer about a mile from where I saw it put a bullet into it's head a week later when it came after his grandkid. I always walk armed at night just to be safe. I carry a 45 with hollow-points filled with a cocktail in the recess capped with wax. I was told by the chemist who made it that it would kill damn near anything smaller than a bear in seconds. I have thankfully never needed to use it.

Hey, I saw a mountain lion in Ontario while moose hunting about 10-12 years ago. We (4 of us) reported the sitting to the M.N.R. and they looked at us as if we saw a UFO!:what:

BTW, it was seen 60kms north of the town of Atikoken Ontario. It appeared to be a young cat & we guessed it to weigh about 45lbs.

Yes they are known to travel in pairs usually a male and female. I know an animal biologist who told me that he has seen pairs that were the same sex traveling together but it is rare. Normally it will be a male and a female. Right now there is an issue down by me as a cougar has been seen within 50 miles of where I live. They are well known to cover distances that large in the hunt for food. I will not let my wife go outside at night without either me or a gun. My dogs are sleeping in the backroom now as a safety precaution. If it comes at me even if I don't have my 45 which is rare it is for the fight of it's life. I'm a big SOB if you can't tell from the pic (that is an 880 with a 42 inch bar in front of me) and I carry at least 4 knives on me at all times. I will kill the damn thing before it kills me.

Had a mating pair here just got put down as they got too friendly with the neighbors and the pets. Also had a couple follow me home pretty frequently when I first came up here. Had about a mile walk home from the restaurant down a dirt country road... I smelled like the food (thinking the fish might of had something to do with it) in raw form, you always get some on ya... I would just turn and jump at them or run at them and yell. They would usually just take off from there. But then there were times they would start the stalk again further down the road.:wall:

Yup cougars everywhere up here. In highschool a buddy of mine got attacked by one out in Cherryville, he got lucky and just got some cool scars on his back. His dad was with him and was able to beat/scare it off with a stick. It was tracked and killed and was found to be a sick juvenile. I've seen them many times in the bush but never had a issue with them, very flighty everyone I came across. Intense eyes to have scoping ya out though.

Somebody at the old forum used to hunt mountain lions with his dogs, I think in Arizona.....part of a family operation doing logging there too, if my memory serves me well. He once posted a photo of a cat cornered by his dogs, just before he shot it. Anyone remember? That's a great photo of a very pissed off mountain lion, if anyone has it to show again.

Who from Arizona is mia? Spanish or Mexican decent I recall too, name's on the tip of my tongue, but I can't pull it out :?

emilio? we used to do that to. no more dogs for hunting bear or cougar, our bear and cougar populations are soaring. hunters are allow 2 cougar tags and up to 4 bear tags per year now. most guys have quit hunting them as its hard to get either specially cats with out dogs

yeah justin, even fish and game wants the use of dogs back but the people voted it down:roll: things might change as they are showing up in town more and more often. they eat 1-2 deer per week and i think the estimate is 5-6k in the state now. thats alot of deer
