The 210 isn't a bad homeowner saw. I have one, works well, decent torque, and handles muffler mods quite well. This is with a 16" bar.

Is it worth 200 bucks ?

My local dealer's price, in shop is right at $260.00. Provided that it's not a "hot" saw, it's worth it, I think.

Like geek said, it's a homeowner's saw. If you're wanting it for a groundie or something, it's fine. But for any kind of pro use, there's better saws. But for what it is, it's an OK saw. But it's like the 290. It's the smallest saw in it's series, so you've got teh 230 and 250 that weigh the same and have more power.

I'd give maybe $150. Especially if it's hot. He probably stole it himself or got it for $50.

Ok ill call him and offer 150.00 firm

If it's hot it's not worth the karma that'll come with it no way. That's what I'd be determining first.

darkstar
10-27-2008, 03:54 PM
Well maybe ,,, Hey what are the other models that weigh the same but have more power?

My brother has it, it kinda sucks honestly. But for a chipper trim saw, sure.

290 pro model weighs one more pound.
Big price difference though...
The pawns shops are flooded around here so maybe i should forget the 210 and get a pro model .
Ive always been a husky man.
Can the 290 pro model keep up with a 346 xp
The new price is pretty close i just called the dealers.
Hmmmm:?
I hate home owner model saws .
Crud it im not gonna but the 210 but u guys got me interested in the 290:P

I had a 290. I never thought I would ever sell one of my saws, but that thing had to go. Never heard of a 290 pro.
Just say no to orange handles.

No 290 pro, it's 260 pro.

Off topic here, But I picked up a 310 a few years ago. Payed 80 bucks for it. The guy needed money, He had all the reciepts from where he bought it and had it serviced. I promptly peeled out my wallet and made the transaction. I used that saw hard for 2 years and sold it for 200 bucks. Not 3 months after I sold it, my brand new 361 got snatched by a big log and fell 40 feet. Karma I guess.

A 210 aint not 310!!! A 310 will cut some wood, a 210 wont!

JonnyHart
10-28-2008, 09:17 AM
A 310 is a 290 with a 3/8 sprocket, bar, and chain. Exact same thing.

darkstar
10-28-2008, 09:30 AM
Aww then how is the 260 pro ?

Al Smith
10-28-2008, 09:37 AM
So evidently these models are "clam shells " .If so I just recently found out Stihl even made a clam shell ,shows you how much I know . Through total ignorance of never having seen one I assumed all that Stihl made was removable cylinder types .Well, live and learn .

JonnyHart
10-28-2008, 09:49 AM
Hmmm... I think I'm wrong about that, Al, disregard that post, I shoulda researched before I posted.

DS, the 260 is an excellent saw, the 260 pro has a decomp button that you will probably not need.

Al Smith
10-28-2008, 09:57 AM
Well one way or the other I certainly can't argue about it .I never see these things until they get some age on them . What I know about most new saws in the Stihl line up or any manufacturers for that matter would fit in a thimble .

Ya know ,even a pro saw ran by a tree sevice will go for years before it needs work done on it unless it has been mistreated and it comes to me for repairs .By that time it's old .

Case in point was an 038 Mag that hung in there for 15 years before it spilled it's guts from a blown piston .Not bad if you think about it . It made much more than it cost new for sure .

Also the 260 pro comes with heated grips ( handlebars, whatever you call them)

It's a great saw, I've had about 5 of them, the one I run now is 6 years old. Thats 6 years of cutting professionally. I use it for slashing and falling x-mas trees, which I cut 10-15000 of every year.
I should buy a new one, but I want to see how long I can make it go.

I bought a non-pro Husky (45) in 1996. I heat my house with wood only, sell some wood, and do some tree jobs. This saw has done the major cutting. Replaced the spark plug, rebuilt the carb, and replaced a worn out oil pump. Also a couple of sprockets and bars. Gone through 20 some chains that I file when they get a little dull. Not too bad for a non-pro. I am thinking of stepping up to a pro but I don't know if I can justify the double price.

I wish my 200 had one. I wonder how hard it would be to put a decomp on a 200t? The decomps are cheap from Bailey's, you would just have to drill and tap the jug. Skwerl, have you got a 200t jug in your parts pile? What do you think?

MasterBlaster
10-28-2008, 05:51 PM
That would be sweet, save on starter cords and my joints!

sawinredneck
10-28-2008, 08:14 PM
The 290/310/390 are all the same crankcase with a different piston and cylinder on them. Higher the number the bigger the displacement.
The 260 pro has a decomp and an ajustable oiler, not sure about the heated handles, but I don't think so, I think that is yet another option.

10-28-2008, 08:16 PM
Heated handles/carb are usually the 'arctic kit' option on most Stihls pro models will come either or. My 660 and 046's are arctic kit and both of my 361's are not. Of course I don't own a rearhandled saw that small so I'm not certain about the 260.

Dave Shepard
10-28-2008, 08:25 PM
I think the only arctic saws in the Stihl catalog are the 440/441/460.

squisher
10-28-2008, 08:28 PM
Well certainly the 660 must be in there too. Because I have one!:D

Dave Shepard

I just checked, not listed. Do you have a Canadian Stihl catalog? I guess you are only supposed to run small saws when it gets cold out.:?

squisher
10-28-2008, 08:38 PM
I don't have a catalog but to make certain I'm not going insane I ran out to my truck and my 660 with heated handles and carb is badged with 'arctic' decals. So I dunno what the dealio is?

Dave Shepard
10-28-2008, 08:41 PM
I went to the Stihl site and pretended I was Canadian. You guys get Arctic 660's (http://www.stihl.ca/products_chainSaws_arctic.asp) Bastids!

So am im gonna be psyched???
I run her tomorrow...
I cant wait , im about to go outside and cut some targets just to see what it will do.
Will it out cut the 346xp ?
I notice the stihl always seems to cut well at lower RPM or at least sound that way , kinda like ummmmm but its cutting fast.
And the husky is like WYYYYY screamin and it cuts way fast,,,
My first stihl ,,, so psyched,,,
New toy oh yeahhhhhh

Does it have heated handles? Odd the timing of your purchase, I made a couple of cuts with another companys 260 today, first time with one. Seemed a decent little saw for sure.

I love the heated handles more for bushwork than residential work though. Once you go heated handles through a winter you'll never go back. Warm hands always.

After running saws almost daily for over 30 years, my circulation in the hands is so screwed up, that I get cold fingers real easy.It is known as Raynaud's syndrome in medical circles. Even though the winters here are not that severe any more ( global warming!) I have a hard time running saws, that are not heated.
